Vitamin level blood test, which vitamins?

Hi again everyone,

Heard that Vitamin D is quite important for Peyronie's, and so will request that one, will probably request Vitamin K2 also, any need to check vitamin B levels? Magnesium and Calcium levels may be useful too?

Asking for a full vitamin blood panel at the doctors may seem a bit off, they will probably ask what ones are most important to me. So that is what I am asking.

The water soluble vitamins you can take until you pee orange without concern for the most part.  I've found B6 upsets my stomach if I take too much.  D (you CAN overdo it...it can be toxic in high levels) is best if some Calcium is present as the two are synergistic.  Sunlight is the best D source, as you will actually manufacture it yourself when exposed to sun.  Obviously not so much at one time as to burn.

I take E (marginally useful, but not harmful), B6, D3 as well as the L-xxxx supplements.  It may be more cost effective just to pick them up and start taking them as opposed to blood work.  If I overdo the D, I react by getting very sleepy and feeling like I need a nap all the time.  The same thing happens the first time of the year I get significant sun.  Gradually sliding into summer with a few short visits to a tanning booth helps.  B5 and C together in 500-1000mg doses are a decent, side-effect free antihistamine.  Drs are not going to be that helpful with Vitamin levels, as they are trained for the pharmaceuticals.

There is a holistic practitioner who runs a health supply store near where I live who is much better at helping you pick out supplements.  If you are near Joplin, Missouri, go to Margie's...on north Main.  Her technique seems a bit odd...amounts to what I call "body dowsing", which may seem strange, but I have confirmed her results in my own life and my wife's.  Not spectacular, but beneficial.  On a side note, dowsing for water works for me as well...I just haven't used it except to find water lines.

If you can find a practicing kinesiologist, they are worth visiting.  Applied kinesiology is a mixture of acupuncture/acupressure/chiropractic which originates in the far east.  They've been studying the human body for some 5000 years, and what they've learned should not be discounted.  They use various methods to let your body tell them what it needs also.  My wife's cousin apprenticed under the only American licensed to practice in China.  As a "parlor trick" he did a quick test and told me my spleen was marginal.  I told him I didn't have one anymore, so yeah.

I agree about the water soluble vitamins.   Just take a good multi and you will likely have enough.

Your D should be checked every year.  The range given by the labs are usually 30-100 or 30-80.  Most functional medicine doctors will say at least 50 on the low end.  Some like to see it  higher.

Minerals are good to test to have.  Urine tests, from what I have read are not all that accurate.  Getting a hair analysis is considered more accurate.  It is also a good way to check for undesired metals in your system like lead, mercury and cadmium.  You can get this test on line from various labs.  I have used King James labs  in Cleveland.  I believe their name has since changed but there are others you can find on the internet. Anywhere from 60-120 dollars depending on how much they measure.

Some docs like to check B-12 especially if you are complaining of low energy. Low levels maybe indicative of  a condition called Pernicious Anemia.

I'm a newb here and finally signed up...I see a lot are taking supplements which is great..one thing I'll add is not all supplements are alike.  One of the biggest problems with all these studies conducted by "scientists and doctors" on vitamins is they most times choose really cheap, ineffective vitamins then conclude that vitamin X has no effect on X disease.  Ridiculous really.  It's all about absorption and how much you get into your body.  Peeing orange as some say is my point. When you pee orange many people think that you are peeling out the vitamins u just took because your body is saturated with that vitamin and doesn't need it...well...not true.  It's that the vitamin you took wasn't absorbed into the body effectively and quick enough.  

Just thought I'd chime in and say not all vitamins are built the same.  I did my own experiment too.  For one month I took a standard Centrum(just crap) multi vitamin and that's all I took daily. Within 1-2 hours I was peeling bright yellow just peeing it all out. The next month I took what I had researched as a very high quality multi vitamin and low and behold my pee was basically normal.  Absorption!

Interesting points Freemason, going for a vitamin/mineral (Vitamin D, Free Calcium, Magnesium and Zinc) blood test tomorrow, there are points for and against taking your usual vitamins the day before, but am still undecided?

Am still taking the pentox, Cialis5mg, CoQ10, and Acetyl L-Carnitine and Citrulline Malate.
