Hi guys. I've had peyronies for a little under a year now and i believe I'm still in the acute stage. My question is how common are flare ups, what happens when a flare up occurs, how would i know if a flare up occurs and how can i prevent it from happening. I'm really focused on trying to improve my situation (traction) but i also don't want to cause any more damage.

Hey Dared,

With me flare ups tend to happen if I start any sexual activity or I ware tight clothing that pushes against my penis. When it happens I feel sore and achy in my penile area along with some sharp pains every now and then (mostly when erect with the sharp pain). It also seems that the veins in my penis seem to get enlarged quite a bit when I have flare up. This mostly happens If I have an orgasm. Since I have gotten on pentox my flare ups only happen when I climax so I try to cut down on masturbation as it seems to do more harm then good. If I do give into that and I have a flare up I take 2 Tylenol extra strength 500mg. After that it seems to go down with in about 2 to 3 hours from my experience. A hot shower may help. I normally take a hot shower and then rinse off with a cold shower so I don't feel so hot afterwards. Not sure if it is the hot water or the cold water that helps.

I'm only 3 months into this condition and pentox has taken away most of my pain and flare ups. Traction should not cause you any more damage but will most likely help if done correctly. When you use traction are you getting flare ups? Is that what you mean?

I don't know that you can prevent flare ups from happening. But you treat them by being proactive and doing the same thing you do to treat Peyronies. PAV, traction, VED, etc.

But once the acute stage ends and i enter the chronic stage, the disease is supposed to have stabilized (no pain no further curvature etc). What i'd like to know is once you enter the chronic stage, if a flare up occurs does that mean the acute stage starts all over again? 12-18 months of pain, more deformity etc.

The answer, sadly, is yes.

So in effect, if you keep having flare ups you never leave the acute stage. I just turned 23 and I'm lucky enough to have a beautiful gf. I just hope that by having sex, i'm not causing further irritation and preventing the disease from stabilizing. I sometimes feel slight irritation after sex...

No Dared, not that what I am saying.
I think most people had never a new flair-up, some had one, two or more.
Myself had a flair up after the disease was stabilized, just one, at the time I didn't made yet nothing to treat my Peyronies (3 years without any treatment)
The point is that you never know. You have to make all the possible to treat the disease in a way that minimizes the chance for flair -up.

Interesting James. How long did your flare up last?
