Anyone tried megadosing on supplements/herbs? And i dont mean taking double the recommeed dosage of capsules, i mean getting the powder form in bags and chugging it down to the point of losing track of how much you had, with many supplements of every kind, im talking also about herbs like fresh ginger and tumeric

Some supplements im taking double dosages right now in capsules and not feeling anything, but i plan to order them in a powder form in a bag to save money, il probably be tempted to have some experiments with my body like i always do

i know some can harm the liver like gotu kola, some thin your blood, who cares about the blood being too thin anyway? More likely to bleed, i read that losing blood is benefitial anyway on researches on blood donations

Any experience with it or thoughts?

Personally, I wouldn't go down this route mainly because I have IBD and an associated rare liver disease, so don't want to do anything that puts pressure on my liver. I tried normal dose vitamin E. daily for about 10 months and didn't notice any improvement.

I think it depends on what kind of supplements you are considering. The body can only absorb so much of certain ones, like vitamin B and C, and the rest just gets filtered out and ends up in your urine. (Then again, if you're prone to kidney stones then too much vitamin C can also be bad for you). Other ones, such as vitamin A and D, can be stored and accumulate in your body, which can be harmful for you either if you take one single mega dose or a bit too much over a longer period. Not saying it is necessary deadly in any way, but can trigger anything from nausea to liver damages.

Basically, too much of anything you ingest can be harmful, especially if it is in a concentrated form, but it is difficult to say something general about all supplements. Never heard of anyone e.g. overdosing on raw ginger, but I've also never heard of anyone trying :)

I doubt you will be able to see substantially positive effects of supplements or herbs immediately. For me, taking supplements is more of a long-term complement to the other types of treatments. The only one I feel quite a strong positive impact of is raw turmeric, but then again that can also just be placebo for all I know.

Not sure if my rambling helps but basically I would not recommend mega dosing of certain, especially not over a longer period of time. If you want to proceed, then do some thorough research so that you can identify potential side effects when they appear.

Good luck!
