Cialis concerns

Hi all,

I've been on daily 2.5 mg Cialis for a couple of months now but I think it might not be helping. I've noticed sometimes if I take it in the daytime, my plaque becomes "inflamed" and almost a little harder than usual, and seems to be what you guys describe as "hard flaccid", though it tends to dissipate after a bit. The reason I got Peyronies in the first place was from priapism caused by trazodone.

Is it possible the Cialis is having a negative effect on my scar tissue? Is it possible to not take it for a few days, see how I react, then hop back on it? I don't have any trouble getting erections and I'm about 99% pain free with erections (sometimes slight discomfort).
Thanks

Think you can stop for a while. As a matter of fact, for many people the effects diminish a little over time so could be you react better next time you start using it again. That said, I can't say it really helps for scar tissue. I myself also still get erect quite easily, it is just that parts of my penis feel "clogged" the tunica is covered in scar tissue and I can't really get out of active phase. But I still take the whole cocktail of pentox L citrulline and cialis with little succes other than just being able to get erect quite easily considering how scarred my dck became. But like yoy I also sometimes wonder if it foes more harm than good. First thing I am struggling with hard now is heartburn and I have a feeling the amoubt of pills I swallow (and smokibg pot often) is to blame.

Cialis is recommend by a lot of doctors to help dealing with peyronies as it helps with having a very rigid erection.

How many hours did your priapism last? did it cause a lot of damage? how did it resolve? on it's own? surgery? pills?

I've mentioned before that a side effect of trazadone in men is priapism. I don't know the numbers, but it had that effect on me 20 years ago. Fortunately it wasn't full on priapism, just inappropriate erection (unexpected, and at one time only, without any sexual stimulation, so I knew something wasn't right) that only lasted a minute or so. So, I had to quit that stuff.

I'm sure there is no problem going off the Cialis, especially if you don't need it. And even staying on it isn't going to hurt the plaque in any event. I just can't imagine any reason why it would.

Interesting you mention priapism w regular dose trazadone.  Hawk suggests low dose (25 mg at bedtime-more is not better) for better erections.  Works for some and very inexpensive.

It may be in the survival guides:

I took 50 mg trazodone to help me sleep. I wouldn't be able to use it for sex, it would knock me out within a half hour or so of taking it every night. I'd be so asleep that I never noticed if I had an erection lasting too long. So after months of use I developed painful erections then a mishap during sex led me to where I am now.

My uro said when he was in residency they jokingly referred to the drug as "traza-bone". Which is funny, but it's ruined my life. So yeah...

Sorry, it's 25mg I believe.  Check hawks post or survival guide for details:

From Hawk: "would strongly consider adding 1/2 of a 50 Mg Trazadone with a light snack before bedtime. Trazadone is an old antidepressant. When prescribed for depression it is dosed as high as 600 mg daily - Trazadone has a side-effect of causing NTE's. In fact in healthy men at high doses, it can cause priapism, a condition of a prolonged erection that needs urgent attention. It is dirt cheap costing pennies a tablet which you cut in half. If you have a good Dr. you can tell him you want it for the side-effect of NTE's as you heal and try to regain functioning. If you have an uncooperative Dr. sugguest you need it for sleep since it is often prescribed at those low doses for sleep. More is NOT better. if it is going to work it will work a 1/2 of a 50 mg tablet with a snack. And NO, it does not do much for daytime usable erections. If has been established that NTE's use different nerve pathways than stimulated daytime erections."

Yes, trazadone can work like that. For me, however, it's what caused my Peyronies.

I was prescribed it for insomnia, and it led to painful erections, followed by trauma during sex.

It may work for others, but it ruined everything for me.

My original question for the thread was about Cialis, and if it has the potential to also cause damage. Just wondering if I can stop taking it to test a theory and pick back up if I'm wrong.

Anon1986,

Im sure you can start and stop cialis anytime. But, trazadone should never be used in men to achieve an inappropriate erection. That's a side effect of the drug which is dangerous. It's a sleeping pill, and if you ever get an erection on it you should immediately stop taking it. That's what a doctor told me. When I told him I had an inappropriate but short term erection on it he said to stop taking it immediately and throw the remaining pills in the garbage. And to never take it again. So I did.

What's important to remember on any medication that aids in erections is that it persists for more than two - four hours to seek immediate medical attention for priapism.  It doesn't matter if it's a Pde5i or trazadone.

Jan, medications are prescribed for off label use all the time.  A doc can responsibly prescribe it for Erectile Dysfunction regardless of what you believe or have been told.

Oh Tony, I beg to differ. Trazadone was never designed to treat ED, unlike viagra and cialis. If it does, I was told to toss the trazadone in the bin and never take it again. To my knowledge, trazadone is never prescribed to treat ED. Yes, many drugs are prescribed for off-label use, but trazadone is not one of them. I think the priapism risk is too high. If you have a study to share saying something contrary, I'd be interested to see it. I'll ask a doctor I know online about it, but I think I know the answer.

Just because the doctor you know does not, it does not mean that it is not done.  The owner of this forum knows a lot about this-see posts and survival guides re ED by Hawk.

Tony, I'm not arguing about it, but I'm just curious because the thought of taking trazadone for ED, for anyone who has it, just never entered my head. Someone here said trazadone is a really old drug. So, if it was around before viagra, was anyone prescribing it off-label for ED? Gosh, I never heard that, which is why I am curious to ask a doctor about that.

Yes, it may work for some-but not all.  Pde5i's are generally more effective for more-but also not everyone.
