Hi-  I was diagonsed w/ Peyronies Disease around 3 months ago.  I started noticing a change in the shape of my penis around 8 months ago.
I've gone to one urologist already here in nyc.  He is more an expert on fertility issues, but, I just wanted to see someone about  it.   He did the scan/ etc., started me on cialis and colchine........I did the first batch of cialis and colchine/ couldn't afford the cialis a second script b/c insurance doesn't cover it.  I've also been taking vitamin E/ and applying the gel on the plaque area.

Monday I'm going to a doctor that I've read is an expert in Peyronies Disease.

I'm curious as to whether or not, before xiaflex treatment (assuming I'm eligble for xiaflex)  is there a discussion/prep period?
Or might the treatment actually happen on Monday? I've heard side effects are pretty challening.

Any other advice-on current treatment regimen.  Honestly- I'm nervous about the toxicity of colchine too.  And, is there a way to get the cialis covered via insurance-And, any paticular advice for a nyc resident on doctors etc.

nychelp,

First, regarding the refusal of insurance to cover Cialis - challenge the decision.  They should have given you something in writing stating their refusal.  That should have been accompanied by a form that allows you to challenge their decision.  Watch for a time limit on the challenge.  They probably consider Cialis is not medically necessary because it is primarily used to overcome ED (a social issue? not a medical necessity?).  You will likely need a statement from the prescribing doctor explaining that it is being prescribed for medical treatment of Peyronie's.  I have had successful reversal of insurance company decisions, so push back until you are heard.

Second, regarding Xiaflex - I had an appointment with one of the best Peyronies specialists in Michigan.  He sees about 200 to 250 Peyronie's patients per year.  I was the third Peyronie's patient he had seen that day.  Although he is a very experienced and successful surgeon he advises surgery as a last resort.  His take on Xiaflex is this:  Studies show that treatment with Xiaflex has an average correction of curvature of 17 degrees, not 30 degrees that some hope for.  He also thinks the risk of penile fracture is a significant concern with Xiaflex treatment.  Of course, this is just what I have heard from one reputable source.  Learn all you can so you can make fully informed decisions.

Good luck with you treatment.

As Pretzel has said, challenge the insurance company on Cialis. Just it have to be subscribed for ED and not Peyronies.
If you don't find other solution, go to:
https://www.riverpharmacy.ca/drug/cialis
Me and others on the forum bought medications from them.
I am cutting the 20 mg in 4 pcs. so it come out $0.53 per day.

There is no waiting period that I am aware of. It is still unclear however whether Xiaflex injections will be covered by insurance or not. So if they want to do the injections I would hold off until you find out if the procedure is covered. I had Verapamil injections which is a very similar procedure. As Xiaflex is new it is expensive as I'm sure the company that developed the drug has a lot of development costs to recover.

For other suggestion I encourage you to read the following if you haven 't already.
