Hello, I was just diagnosed a couple days ago but I've been living with this about 4 years. I'm in my mid 30s and am a recovering addict- which is actually how I ended up with this trauma, I injected drugs into my penis. It's kind of a karmic irony tgat that's how they first want to address my problem-injecting something back into my penis. So I've been clean about a year and a half and decided it was time to deal with this problem. I got a referral from GP and saw a urologist a couple days ago and they want to start injections soin if my state insurance covers it(does anyone know?) they would like to start me in injections of xiaflex I believe thats what its called I can't find my pamphlet at the moment. I'm just curious if this is a good medication for me to start on, or are their others? They also want me to start bending exercises and she said I may want to get some sort of brace-what would be a good one? Also how well do the operations work? Also the urologist woman who saw me-i don't think she had ever dealt with a case before she had to look up medicine for it in her laptop and she got her male doctor to look at it, he sounded like he dealt it before. Thus us a very delicate matter of course so if I end up having an operation I think I would like to travel to my nearest big city to find someone who has allot if experience but for these injections do you that is a huge deal if they've never done that before? I have a pretty severe case it's almost 90 degrees. Thanks any ideas comments etc. Would be very appreciated. Oh also one thing I'm concerned about us I dint have any scar tissue that can be felt, so how are they gonna know where to do it.

Welcome. Try to see a true specialist and no ordinary urologist. Xiaflex may be a good choice but certainly get the best opinion possible. I recommend traction and doing everything you can to improve your health. Watch your blood sugar, exercise, and do it all. This damned disease requires commitment to all areas of your life, in some ways it can be quite "helpful" in that sense. I'm really glad to have you here, so take your time and read up and all the different treatments.

Pony,

Neo is correct don't mess around with somebody that isn't a specialist. If there is a specialist within a reasonable drive, go see that doctor. Getting Xiaflex or an operation on your package by somebody that isn't a specialist is like getting rotator cuff surgery by a podiatrist. Nobody in their right mind would do that and I would argue that nothing is more important to a guy on his body than his package.  Traction and VED are solid treatments, but not everything will work for everybody. However, Dr. Levine in Chicago uses both as a part of his practice and he is arguably the best in the USA.

Thank-you both of you for your input I appreciate it. Is there a list of specialist on this forum by state or city? I live in the Seattle are. I haven't had much time to browse thru the posts but I plan on it. Thanks again.
