hello I am 38 and in otherwise good health. about 4 - 6 weeks ago I noticed a slight uncomfortable feeling while masturbating (not really pain - just a feeling that was not usual) but didn't really think anything of it, although I also noticed that when having sex with my wife I was not lasting as long as usual. so I began to wonder if something was happening. about 3 - 4 weeks ago i noticed that my erection had dramatically changed shape with an upwards curve at the end and a slight bulge to one side, it already had a slight bend to one side (not really noticeable and caused no problem) and this appears to have got a bit more pronounced but it is really the upward curve that is worrying me as it is so different to what it looked and felt like before.  overall it also seems to be about an inch shorter and is harder to maintain an erection for my previous usual length of time. the time to ejaculate was also getting much quicker.  i did a bit of internet research and saw that perhaps i have got Peyronies Disease as some but not necessarily all of the symptoms match. i have not been to the doctor and i have not told my wife (although she must have noticed it is not quite like it used to be)- and both of which i know i am going to have to do pretty soon. when penis is flaccid it seems exactly the same as before.
what do you think? does it sound like early stage Peyronies Disease, or could it be something else?

Hi
Don't panic! it may not be Peyronie's.
Go to your GP and ask for a referral to a urologist it's the only way you'll get a definitive answer.

There is no other disease that is generally associated with penile bending like you describe
Mondor's disease has been mistaken for Peyronies by urologists at times.

Any bending of the penis, particularly after sex, should be taken seriously and attributed to Peyronies or inflammation until a diagnosis is made. Your case certainly sounds like Peyronies, so go see a specialist as soon as you can.
A regular urologist won't know much about Peyronies, try to find a specialist close to you!

The important thing to remember is that Peyronies is often not a, "you have it or you don't" disease.

It is much like tendinitis, or any connective tissue disorder--when it becomes a problem effecting you negatively, you have the disease. People may be genetically disposed to Peyronies, but those who are may never get it, while those are aren't may end up getting it! via trauma etc.

Personally, I would avoid sex for a while and even try icing or heating the area. I think hiding it from the wife will make things much more difficult. Educate yourself on these forums as well as you can and start treating yourself as if it is Peyronies. Most of the treatments that we use here are good for overall penile health. Whether you have it or not, now is a time to focus on having a healthy penis, not such a bad thing at all!

Erections are good for penile health, but sex and masturbation can really heat things up inflammation wise.
Give yourself some time to rest and let the inflammation leave your penis while you get if it a chance to heal any micro trauma it may have had. If it is Peyronies, and it sounds like it very well may be, consider the oral treatments used on this forum and look into VED or traction therapy!

thanks for reply , I have a few more questions.  the reality of the situation got to me this morning and I can see this is going to be a battle to not get totally depressed all the time.

I have appointment with GP next week. in terms of referral is there any specific person or consultant in London I should ask to be referred to?  I don't want to go to someone who doesn't know anything about it. especially as the referral process can take months in UK.

is there any specialist in London I can just go and see without being referred? if I have to pay roughly how much will it cost for a diagnosis?

I see that co q 10 and l-argenine are from health supplement shops so I will buy some of them, if I am going to ask for a prescription what is the best thing to suggest they prescribe me?

where do you buy a VED? is it a medical thing or a sex shop thing ? is that advisable before getting a diagnosis?

does the plaques form regardless of whether it is erect or flaccid - part of the reason I didn't do anything 2 weeks ago was that I wanted to deliberatley avoid having an erection to see if it went away but I see that perhaps I should be trying to have as many erections as possible to keep blood flow going.. but that i should not actually masturbate or have sex - just get the erection and monitor symptoms, should I be doing anything else at this stage ?

Hi Leinad,

There are 2/3 in London at least as I can figure out. As ever there is contradictory feedback about them, but they are certainly the most experienced in seeing this condition. You can find names here.

Regarding what to do now I'll post another link as it has much good information.

Hope these links help.

leinad:

It is best to buy a VED of good and durable medical quality rather than a sex toy shop model.
The Augusta Medical Systems VEDs are considered to be some of the very best quality on the market.

There is a source in the UK that is a distributor/seller of the Augusta VEDs. I had at one time the web URL for that source,, but seem to have lost it.

OK, you members in the UK, help me out here, please post the link for this member. I have to do something to save that address so I can get to it readily when asked, etc.

Anyway, bottom line, there are many posts, topics and threads about VED usage, so do some research in the VED board section of the home page index. Log in to the home page and locate the home page index link and open it. Scroll down a ways from the top and locate the VED board and open it find a world of information about the VED and how to use it.

Let me know if I can you in any way with the VED therapy if you decide to use it.

Hi Lienad,

I purchased a Vitality model made by Augusta. I had it shipped from the USA. Cost was about £75 and took about seven days to arrive. I can say it seems very well made so no complaints.

Good luck matey ... Liber

just had appointment with local GP, initially I was reassured as he said he thought it might be BXO balantis xerotica obliterans which I had not heard of, but now I have come home and looked that up I have a sense he doesn't have a clue what he is talking about as it seems to be something totally different (a skin condition) . I showed him a photo of my bend (about 30 degrees up about halfway along) and he examined me and said he could feel some scar tissue along the top but then came up with BXO. no prescription for anything.

he did refer me to urologist and I have a choice of 4 (one of which I requested to be Dr Minhas at UCH as recommend on the other thread) but on NHS the wait is 75 days for his dept and may not actually be him (wait is less for other urology units) . I don't think I can cope with the unknown for that long so am considering just paying for it privately and I can get an appointment in 2 days - while i can just about scrape the cash together for the first appointment I don't really have the money to spare and so my question is after an initial consultation (at cost of few hundred pounds) is there any average amount of follow up appointments required to actually get it diagnosed or treated as it seems every single appointment is going to cost hundreds of pounds. I don't have health insurance so this is money that would be spent on food, rent, bills etc.

an alternative plan is to wait 30 days for a different hospital referral and see what they say, and if still not happy then make private appointment.

I have been taking Co Q 10, Arginine and Carnitine supplements for a week now as recommended here but I don't really even know what they are supposed to do or how I will know if it is making any difference. I have told my wife and she is being very supportive and trying to help me stay positive but I remain very scared about what is happening to me. I am letting penis rest as much as possible.

Liber - please can you pm me the link of where you got your VED. thanks
