Paulac

My name is Paul, I am 54 and live in the UK. I contracted Peyronies about 8 months ago and did not go to my GP until January.

I have a 30-40 degree curvature which was extremely painful at first, but has now calmed down. Intercourse is unaffected, although no longer as pleasurable.

My GP referred me to a Urologist in Windsor, Mr Hanif Motiwala, who is great. He prescribed Trental which I am currently taking and I have just had my second course of Verapomill. These are done under general anaesthetic and consist of up to 30 injections at a time. Mr Motiwala suggest that after the third course, I should see an improvement in the condition. I have not attempted an erection since the first course two weeks ago. My penis is currently badly bruised and I have no desire to use it for anything other than passing water.

I am insured and my insurance company is covering the treatment.

where are you in dealing with the psychological aspects of Peyronies Disease?

I do not see this as a major issue, but would like to discuss the problem with friends, although I find it difficult to discuss.

Are you in a relationship? I have been married for 34 years and my wife is sympathetic, although our sexual relationship is sporadic.

Has anybody else been treated in the same way and seen positive results? Having read some of your threads, it is not very encouraging. The procedure is unpleasant and time consuming and if it is not going to work then I am not keen to continue.

I look forward to hearing some positive results.

Hi Paul,

There are undoubtedly positive results for some people, for most in fact. However the quantification of results is highly variable. Different treatments are possible, from L-carnitine coupled with injections of Verapamil,or colchicine and vitamine E, or shockwave lithotripsy, or vacuum devices and traction devices... all the way to surgical treatment. Some treatments work well for some, and not at all for others, so the best way is to find what works for you.

As for Pental (pentoxifylline) positive effects have been reported in a study, when used in conjunction with Verapamil and L-arginine as well as a penis extender (traction device). In my opinion multimodal approaches are the best, because scientific studies frequently show synergic effects. I would suggest discussing this with your urologist who, given your age, seems to have chosen the proper course of treatment, although other ways are also possible. It is not uncommon to need to wait 6 months to see real improvement, but pain has to be managed somehow. If you decide to try traction therapy, look in the forum for advice about what to buy, turns out urologist's recommendation are not always the best or, at least, up to date.

You seem to have a positive and clear attitude, keep up the good work!

DO

Paul,
if you are on Vit. E or omega Skip it just a day or two before the injections...they add to bleeding and the bruising. Use a traction device after the injection it help the medication get into the tissue and break up the plaque. and the stretch helps with the straighting The day after get back on the omega... I found  that is working for me. Plus the Pentox and Cialis and the list goes on. It has taken me almost 1 year to turn the curve from downward to slight bend to up and to the right. It works almost 75-80% better and that is the good news, because they told me I would need surgery... now I don't!

Great advice, many thanks. I will keep the forum informed of progress.

I'm going to go down the traction route too. Verapamil - For me, there's too many questions over whether it's a help or a hindrance.

Having been told, like DO, that my only option is surgery. I've decided to ignore that advice for now. The Uro was telling me that once calcification had occurred surgery was my only option. That nothing, Pentox, Verapamil, etc, would work. That doesn't fit with what I've read and learnt here.
