Newb - 45yr - Is a Bump on the shaft always a sign of Peyronie's?

Hello all,

History

45 year old male here.  After I masturbated 4 or 5 days ago while I was cleaning myself up, I noticed a hard little bump on the top part of my shaft.  Probably about 1/3 up from the base.  One cannot see it or feel it if I run my finger along my shaft but if you press down some, that is when you can feel it. It feels like a round, hard little pellet almost.

It feels like it is in-between the 2 corpora cavernosa chambers because I can also feel it from the bottom as well if I manipulate things.  There are a lot of veins and what not in there but it is a definite hard, roundish small little something?

Of course Dr. Google was in order and the first two things that I came across were Peyronie's and Cancer.  Yikes!

Cancer from what I read, usually involves the glans but I suppose you never know.

In any event, could this just be a swelling of a vein?  A cyst?  A nodule?  That will disappear?

Going down the Peyronie's list:

- No painful erections or pain, although poking around at it seemed to have aggravated it a little in size so not going to do that anymore.

- No change in erections in terms of curvature etc.

- A little Erectile Dysfunction but that has been going on for some time now mainly due to inactivity from this lockdown (noticed a huge difference when the gym was shutdown and I lost my 45 mins of daily cardio) and I also take an AD that seems to have lowered my libido and causes me to take longer but I can get there in terms of orgasm.  I am also very sensitive to stress/anxiety with Erectile Dysfunction, even back in high school and of course these are stressful times for all.

- No dents, "hour glassing" etc.

- Cannot feel bump when erect.

Questions

So, I suppose I really only have the one symptom which is that little bump.

I am concerned however.  Is this worth a call to the Urologist?  I think it would be?

Can anyone else entertain what a little bump in the penis below the skin may be?

*Are the bumps on Peyronie's patients shaft visible with the eye?

Wonderful site you have here.  Not sure if this is Peyronie's (hope not obviously).

Just looking for some general feedback?

I am also single after separating with a woman I was living with about a year ago so have not really been sexually active given COVID over the last year and newly single.

Cheers.

Welcome to the forum Andy,

Hmmmmm, I guess Dr. Google is correct.  My guess is the typical urologist would not give you an answer after an exam, so it is difficult for us to do so based on a brief narrative.  You did make a good informative initial post, however, so I thank you for that.  If you are certain it has not been there for the last 3 decades, then my guess is that it is a nodule of scar tissue.  That term is interchangeable with "plaque. The question is what caused it.  If you had an injury in the past year, it could be the normal healing of an injury.  I am assuming if it were there more than a year, you would have found it.

If you can rule out any noticeable, even slight injury that might have left you tender the next day, then it could be Peyronies Disease.  If it is Peyronies Disease it is presumably caused by some micro-trauma.  Keep in mind scaring on a penile injury is normal healing.  It is when the scaring process over-runs normal tissue that you have Peyronies Disease.  So the question is IF it is scar tissue, is it confined to an injury, or is it over-running healthy tissue?  Then, of course, comes the question of whether it is active (acute) or is it stable.

I do think you should see a urologist.  I would not worry about cancer because in the 15 years I have run this forum, I do not think we have had a single case of penile cancer here.

As Google stated, it could be a cyst, a thrombosed vein, or some other artifact in the penile structure you have overlooked for your whole life.  My bet is that it is scar tissue from an injury or a minimal expression of Peyronies Disease.

I highly suggest that that you read this a couple of times carefully. https://www.peyroniesforum.net/index.php/topic,3180.0.html
You need to get very accurate objective measurements, as the guide explains.  This way, you will know if there is any progression. ."

Thanks so much for the information and response!

I will surely make an appointment with a Urologist and keep all posted.

Hi Hawk,

I just had a question that perhaps you can answer.  With this bump on my shaft and no current, curve, pain, Erectile Dysfunction, hour glassing etc, how long would have to go by before I could say I am clear of Peyronie's?  In other words, if 6 months pass, the little bump is still there on my shaft and still no curve, pain, Erectile Dysfunction, hour glassing etc, would I be pretty much in the clear of these symptoms developing and chalk it up to perhaps just a cyst, fibrous tissue etc, that has not affected the penis in an adhering fibrotic "band" type of way (such in the case of Peyronie's?

I mean, from what I have been reading, it seems that the consensus is that you have an injury (whether aware or not), develop pain, then develop a bump, then develop a curve, then have Erectile Dysfunction issues.

If I have a bump but no pain and do not develop a curve within the next 6 months or ever 12 months (knock on wood), would I likely be in the clear?

Or perhaps I would have a very mild form of Peyronie's and would just be in the "stable phase"?

I have noticed that some have it progress for longer than stated but generally, my research has pointed me to an approx. 18 month long development window with most developing symptoms within the first 0-6 months and then it "stabilizing" as in, curve does not worsen much nor do dents, hour glassing etc.  Of course as stated, there are anomalies that land outside of these parameters but generally speaking, symptoms start and progress within the first 0-6 months, usually stop around 12 months and sometimes go on to 18 months before "stabilizing".  Once symptoms have stabilized or not progressed for 3 months, you are in the "stable" phase of the disease - would you concur?

Here is some info I am referring to:

QuoteThere are two clinical stages of Peyronie's disease. During the acute phase, plaques form and curvature progresses. Men who feel pain usually so during this phase, which can last for up to two years. Once symptoms have stabilized for at least three months, men are in the stable phase of Peyronie's disease.

If you could let me know your opinion it would be much appreciated.  I do still plan on seeing a urologist but as you alluded to in your initial post, there is a good chance they will not be able to tell me much based on other research I have also done.

Thanks again.

Forgive me if I miss some of your questions.  It is late, and I scanned your post.  Peyronies Disease does not have to cause a noticeable loss of size or deformity.  Autopsies on men offer 65 yrs old reveals a somewhat high rate of Peyronies Disease they never knew they had.

I think you need a clear diagnosis of that lump.  You have a right to demand and expect that from a doctor.

Also, Peyronies Disease is very individual.  Some men have flare-ups off and on many times over their lives.  Other men have one acute, followed by a stable phase without a return.
