Looking over my paperwork from my appointment last Friday, I see this listed as something I should take. I've done a search both here and the net, but find very little explanation as to whether this is one pill or an assortment(cocktail) I should be taking.

Can anyone offer any insight?

The doctor did not discuss it with me. When I mentioned the PAV cocktail listed here on this site, he in part responded "we have our own cocktail".

I'm currently taking pentox, l-arginine, acetyl l-carnitine hci, vit e, and at times D3. Is the simple explanation that I should add ginkgo biloba and korean ginseng? What is the "CA" and "Damian"?

thanks in advance

I can't help with explanation, but who give you the formula?
If it is the doctor, you should ask him.

Good idea James. It's kind of difficult getting doctors on the phone. So I thought I would ask here in the meantime. You never know, it just might strike up a substantive conversation which may prove helpful. Sometimes conversation itself can be helpful.

I am not happy to be in this club, i am not happy any of us are in this club. As I learn more I hope to have an opportunity to help those new to this thing in any way I can, even if it is just through conversation when questions are asked.

But you're right, i will try to get in touch wih the doctor.

When I went in for meeting with VED rep I stopped by to ask my docs assistant if she could clarify. She seemed as confused as I. In the end I think she gave me inaccurate information.

However, thanks to Matt Foley, I think one of the mystery ingredients has been identified.

Apparently "Damian" is Damiana.

Damiana: Also known as Turnera diffusa, Damiana is native to México, and Central and S. America, where, for centuries, it has been used as an aphrodisiac. Recent research from U. Of Miss. reported Damiana contains the active ingredients pinocembrin and acacetin, which are potent inhibitors of the aromatase enzyme. Aromatase converts testosterone to estrogen, so by blunting it, Damiana keeps testosterone levels higher.

I'm guessing this is part of my doctors "cocktail". He is from S. America, Argentina, relevance unknown.

I'll inquire once again with my doctor's office at some point.

Hi csus,

I sent you a PM on the "PO". The "PO" after the Ginseng is not an ingredient, it's a medical instruction written on prescriptions. It means, "take by mouth".

That's a good cocktail and as I mentioned, take each one separately rather than looking for a combo supplement. Personally, I distrust combos.

God bless, bro. :)

Thanks Matt.

I know you're a big proponent of maintaining testosterone levels. Apparently with the inclusion of Damiana in this combo/cocktail, maintaining testosterone is achieved not by boosting levels through supplements, but through the suppression of an enzyme that converts testosterone to estrogen.

I'm glad I found the mention of Damiana in a post you made in a different thread. Mystery solved. Thank you sir.

I've not had my levels checked. I'm not even sure who i should request to do the test, my primary care physician or my urologist. I am not scheduled to see my urologist again until March, and it's been so long since I have seen my primary care doctor that my wife says they have taken me off the list of patients. At least now I have an idea where to start maintenance of the (potential) testosterone levels that exist in my body.

MattFoley

csus, you're very welcome.

As for the testosterone check, you can have either your primary care doctor or urologist make the request. If you have coverage for lab work, I would have a full panel done which includes testosterone and the other items I've mentioned elsewhere. That will give you an excellent idea of where you are in a number of areas.

Here's a list of items I recommend getting checked:

Testosterone Free
Testosterone Total
Thyroid Panels (T3, T4, TSH)
IGF-1
CMP Profile
Lipid Profile
CBC w/Diff profile
PSA
C-Reactive Protein
DHEA-sulfate
LH
Estrogen

God bless our penises.
