What do you people think about MSM, has anybody used it for a longer period of time, what did it do?

I'm having mixed feelings. Internet tells me that it's supposed to reduce cross-linking of collagen, so called "bad collagen" that makes things less elastic etc.  But it also increases collagen production greatly, hence the positive effect to hair and nails etc.

I've tried it on few occasions for a while, and I still can't figure out if it was bad or good.  At first, it made the penis more "spongy" and I thought like "this is it, this is the CURE!" and continued taking it.  However, after a while, it was the opposite. It started to turn to the right, and felt "tighter" in a bad way - started to look thinner as it felt like the tunica was not giving up that much anymore for the erection trying to stretch it.

So I stopped it, and things went back to where they were.

It still feels like an interesting idea, as people have treated duputreyns illness (in hands) with it, some with success. But i'm afraid to try it again, if it actually makes the scar tissue thicker and less elastic!

Opinions?

First time I am reading about MSM, but it seems like an all around treatment for everything if you read on WebMD:
MSM is used for chronic pain, osteoarthritis, joint inflammation, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, bursitis, tendonitis, tenosynovitis, musculoskeletal pain, muscle cramps, scleroderma, scar tissue, stretch marks, hair loss, wrinkles, protection against sun/wind burn, eye inflammation, oral hygiene, periodontal disease, wounds, cuts, and abrasions/accelerated wound healing. It is either taken by mouth or applied to the skin for these uses.....& many many more.
Just don't use it more than 3 months consecutively or 20 days if combined with  silymarin or hyaluronic acid, and tea tree oil according to WebMD.
Worrying me the statement from Wiki:
FDA enforcement action
In October 2000, the United States Food and Drug Administration warned one MSM promoter, Karl Loren, to cease and desist from making therapeutic claims for MSM.
In my opinion you should talk to a trusted doctor.

Thanks for input James. Among people who adore superfoods and healthy lifestyle, MSM is very popular these days. All I know for a fact, is that it has helped a lot of people with their joint pains etc., and that it grows your hair and nails SUPERfast as that I have tried out myself.

But what is most interesting, is the claim that it has the capability to dissolve those cross-links from collagen where there is excess amounts of it, like in scars, or in hands when people have dupitreuyns contracture which is pretty similar condition with peyronie's as we know.

However it must not be forgotten that it also greatly increases collagen production. So I'm not sure if it's bad or good. My own experience is pretty mixed up like I wrote.

If somebody else has tried it, would be great to hear thoughts :)

The fact that you had initial good results is very interesting.

I would go back and think about what may have changed in your diet, supplements, lifestyle etc. when you started to notice negative results.  It may have been an interaction with something else you started or stopped taking.........
What dose of MSM where you taking?
Did you start to increase the dosage of MSM after sensing good results?  Perhaps only a small amount is right for you.

Who knows what is going on but you post caught my attention as you had some initial good results.

It was also interesting that it reversed when you stopped taking it.

It may be helpful to everyone if you list the supplements and other therapies you may be doing.
Are you also doing VED or stretching?
Goodluck!

I've got this niggling little idea that won't go away about an msm and ALC lotion.
This is an emotionally destructive condition, we all have it, let's be nice to each other.

I have been taking MSM for years. My doses range from 1-3 tablespoons and I take it everyday.

It helps greatly with joint pain. I have not had joint pain since I started taking it. I do get some tendon pain in my left foot because I work 50hrs a week on my feet. I have noticed that if I discontinue the MSM or take too small a dose for a while the pain comes back. If I consistantly take 2+ tablespoons then the pain stops.

However, I have not noticed it do anything for my dick. I have not tried it topically.

Hi again,

just came for a visit since a long time, and saw this topic up here again.

Since I wrote here last time, I've been experimenting some more with MSM. I took it for several months in a row last year, and noticed _significant_ change in things. I'm not able to define what kind of difference exactly, but all I can say is that something happens indeed when you consume this stuff. If it's good or bad in the end, is still a mystery to me. I consumed 1-2 teaspoons a day, high quality MSM from US. (Stay away from any china-made stuff, too much impurity)

Below I've listed some effects I've definitely felt and which I can honestly say are not just placebo, eventhough I don't know what they mean exactly.

+ Penis got more spongy when flaccid
+ Erections got a lot stronger after a while, especially nocturnal ones
+ Significant difference on glans, it fills up better which increases pleasure too. Normally the disease causes the shaft to feel like steel when erect, but glans in the other hand are like 80% at best (except momentarily when "squeezing" with muscles, u know)
+ Shaft felt more spongy when erect, too. In a good way I mean. Not as "rock hard" in an abnormal way as usually.

- After a while, it felt like the curve to the side got more noticeable but in a more curvy way instead of a clear "angle". One theory, could be that perhaps IF it really softened tissues, making erection fuller and longer - the difference between healthier side and the more "scarred" side became more defined. Who knows?

Unfortunately I have some other health issues as well, and I couldn't feel 100% sure if MSM was doing or would have done good or bad for those without better knowledge, so I wanted to stop it for a while, like 6months ago. A little while ago started to take it again.

In general, I fear this supplement in some way - because I'm not sure what it actually does. They say it increases collagen production - which might be bad depending on what kind of collagen it increases. Then again, they say it also dissolves collagen deposits from your body and reduces "bad collagen" and cross-linking of it.

Would be interesting to read more experiences from others who have found this supplement, and also if somebody has better knowledge of this collagen thing on a more scientific level.
