Not sure if there's an off-topic section, so i'm assuming this is it.

But could someone please tell me about the Product Finasteride/propecia?

It is supposed to block DHT supposedly it's very safe but there are a lot of people (although these responses seem like people that just might be hypochondriacs) saying that it caused them to get gyno (man boobs, gynecomastia) and caused them to lose their sex-drive.

I asked on a doctor's site and they said that those side-effects are rare and usually propecia doesn't even affect sex drive and is very safe as well as effective at blocking DHT, in turn causing hair growth.

Edit, read a few posts on here about propecia/finasteride supposedly causing peyronies.

LOL that's like saying exercise caused you to get fat because you were tired more often so you did less.

Aside from those hypochondriac claims, how  beneficial/ likely is propecia to cause either ED or other problems statistically? Read that the chances are VERY low.

notscared, I would be VERY mindful of your tone here.  You're mocking people who have been forum members here for some time, and in all likelihood know much more about Peyronie's Disease than you do.

I took Propecia for about a year and half in 1998-2000. I was 29, and had to go to the doctor about a year in because my erections were suffering big-time. I couldn't get a fully rigid erection to save my life. I stopped the drug cold turkey and in about 6 weeks, I was back to normal. So I paid the doctor a visit to see what was going on.

My doctor told me that from the number of patients who complained to him about Propecia's effect on their sex life, he believed the low numbers reported by the mfg. were way too low.  He also said, "Look, I can prescribe you Viagra, but you should think about this - you're going to want hair forever, right? That means you'll be taking Propecia for decades. Right now, you know if you stop it, your erectile function recovers, but after decades of suppressing your hormones, who knows if that will be the case. It's really your call."  It was the classic Catch-22 - you can have hair, but at what cost?

I stopped Propecia and never looked back. One year later, I developed Peyronie's Disease. Whether the two are connected, I have no idea. But I wouldn't be so dismissive of people who make a connection. Tampering with hormones is risky business, my friend, as medical science and the pharmaceutical industry have found time and again.

So don't be so dismissive.

Nemo, i'm just saying those don't seem to be related. Maybe it was coincidence. When i was looking up propecia side effects that never came up once. Except for a couple times on a forum  full of hypochondriacs saying it caused there dicks to fall off, breast cancer, and all the such. One even claimed he started shitting rainbows!

Obviously the last one is sarcastic but yeah. I guess it is in theory possible. But i can't see how  a testosterone affecting medication would cause the penis to somehow bend.

I used finasteride for about six months around seven years ago. My sex drive totally dropped, and given that my wife and I were trying for a baby I visited my GP. He took one look at my meds and advised that I stop trying to hold on to a full head of hair. About a week later my sex drive was back and we were going at it like bunnies! About a year later I became a father.

I don't think finasteride caused my Peyronie's Disease, but it sure as hell killed my sex drive.

notscared

Not to sound dismissive, but can any of you tell me about people who have taken propecia and had NO side effects? Are you saying those people do not exist?

nemo

notscared, if I didn't know better, I would think you and "technique755" (or whatever) were separated at birth. Or possibly the same person.

What is it with young guys coming onto this forum lately with such argumentative arrogance?

Dude, we just told you about our personal experiences with Propecia. Whether you believe we're telling you the truth or not, I could not care less, but arguing the case and putting the burden of proof on us ... you got nerve, kid. I'll give you that much.

Clearly you don't put any stock in what guys here tell you, so that begs the question. Why are you here?

I am sure there are many guys who use finasteride who experience no side effects. Otherwise it would not be considered fit for purpose. But you are on a forum where there are a great many men who have a range of urological and sexual function disorders. From such a sample group it is unsurprising that a handful if us had sexual side effects to a drug known to cause them.

I think you are wrong on the assessment:
Quotea handful if us
is wrong. All the forum users as I know had ED from Finasteride.

I think you misunderstand me James, perhaps I should have been clearer. I was referring to the 'handful' of forum users who have responded to the OP's enquiry, not of the quantity of forum members who have used finasteride (I have no idea how many of us have used the drug).

OK, I understand welshwales.

I took propecia and it resulted in peyronies.

End of story.

There is no question. doubt. bla bla bla. that was why I got it.

That drug ultimately kills and WILL BE REMOVED from the market in due course. Merk the makers of the drug already knew of the side effects when it got fda approval. They tampered with the results to get it passed, and as a result caused the death of hundreds of men through suicide from resulting depression and deformity. It's all online. Just goog leit. Merk have been sued many times before for drugs which weren't properly tested and led to deaths but they have got away with it since as we all know the pharmaceutical industry is one ofthe most powerful industries out there and even control some government departments.
