Squity

Hi folks. I've finally plucked up the courage to ask for some help here. I was seen by a hospital doctor about 4 years ago and he suspected that I had peyronies disease. He advised that the condition had stabilised and the plaques would begin to disappear over the coming years. He also suggested that I go and see a specialist to which I did not do as I felt rather fearful and embarrassed. Over the past 4 years the condition has gotten progressively worse and I now have two plaques on either side of my penis. Having read some of your stories, I find that I am fortunate that I have not suffered any real pain. However, my penis has shrunk somewhat and continues to do so. I was never big a chap anyway so this is becoming a real psychological torment. I am only 27 and I fear that it will continue to shrink into my older years. Has anybody else experienced this problem? And if so, what would you advise?
Many thanks

Hi Squity,

I got this at age 29 so I know how difficult this is at a young age. There are medications (pentox) that can reduce plaque size and there are treatments, like VED, that can help get back lost size. I do suggest yo go to a specialist as they can give you much better information on your condition than a general practitioner. I'm in the US so I'm not exactly sure how you get a referral in the UK, but other forum members have done so.

Read up on pentox and VED on the forums. You may be able to start on these right away while waiting for your specialist appointment. Good luck and don't lose hope.

I don't know where your doctor got the idea that your plaques would probably begin to disappear. It can happen, but such spontaneous remissions are less than one-in-five. It is more common by far to stabilize or get worse.

I didn't get this until I was 60 (this year! Hurray!). I'm grateful I didn't get it earlier, but I don't think it's easy at any age; I've always had sex multiple times per week since I was about 15, and it's really weird having something like this get in the way.

As far as just having it continue to shrink, I can't speak fom personal experience, but I lost something on the order of 1.75 inches--some to the curve, and some just plain shrinkage. But I also believe that this loss in length can be regained for many of us. My size loss seems to have stopped (knock wood--moring wood, I suppose) even though I am still in the active stage.

Definitely check out everything on this forum. Skjaldborg mentions Pentox (requires a prescription unless you want to evade the regs) and VED, which are excellent suggestions, but you can also look at low-dose Cialis, ubiquinol/CoQ10, Acetyl L-Carnitine, and many other possibilities. You'll feel better once you are taking an active role rather than just worrying about it.

Similar to you, I wasn't large, just an average 6.5 inches. I never had an issue with it until I lost so much. I'll also recommend moderate VED usage to regain some of your length and girth. I lost about 2 inches of length and around 50% girth in the upper half of my penis. Since using the VED I have recovered almost an inch length, and most of the girth (apart from indents at the multiple plaque locations).

Ok guys, thanks for all the support and advice. I will become more active in trying to cope with this thing. Yes UrsusMinor, having read up on the disease, it seems that very few plaques spontaneously disappear. I think I should go and see an actual specialist as Skjaldborg suggested and see what they have to say. It sounds promising that you guys have all seen some improvement since receiving treatment. Like you welshwales, my penis size was never an issue until it started to shrink and now I think about it more often. I will look into all of your suggestions, many thanks again! I wish you all continued improvement and happiness.

I should point out that I saw considerable improvement while taking pentox and I have continued to have minor improvements even after stopping pentox. It is a very slow process, but it can happen. If you don't see improvement or get worse, there are surgical options. As a last resort, a penile implant can be used, which some men here have had and can discuss. You have a lot of options; this isn't the end of the road.

should i go to my doctor and just request a prescription for pentox?  i saw a urlogist who diagnosed me with Peyronies Disease.  he just prescribed cialis and said other medicines were ineffective.  should I go back to him?

wreaked,

Show your current uro the pentox studies found on the resource library section of our forum, which includes these studies: Pentox - Dr. Lue Case Study / Levine mentions his use of Pentox - Peyronies Society Forums

These studies show hat pentox can be effective. If your uro still refuses to prescribe, find another uro who will. Most urologist know very little about Peyronie's Disease. They think it's something only old men get and believe there are no treatments. They are wrong on both counts.
