When to Give Up?

I saw my curve June 28, 2013.  I had a doctor's appointment mid July.  Since then, I have been taking Pentox like clock work even though it causes side effects.  I take all the suggested supplements.  I started the VED 6 months ago.  I also started Traction 2 months ago.  Nothing is making a difference.  If anything, I think it is slightly getting worst.

I am very disappointed.  Should I accept the fact that this will never improve?  When Does someone give up and accept?

Definitely do not give up hope! You've been dealing with this less than a year and the "active" phase is commonly thought to be up to a year or even more.  So if you're still active, what you're seeing is within the realm of "normal" for Peyronie's Disease.  What does this mean?  It means that you will at the very least see stabilization at some point, and may even see improvement.  It's in flux right now because you're "active."  So breathe deep, accept what's going on - continue doing all the things you're doing, keep down body/dietary inflammation as much as possible, get plenty of sleep and you can say confidently, "I'm doing all I can do."

If, when all is stable and showing no further progression, you are incapable of sexual function, that's when you move into other options like an implant.  But you're a long way from that point and in all probability, will never get to that point.  Most of us simply learn to live with the slightly diminished capacity we're left with in terms of size, shape, etc.

I know it's frustrating, believe me. I know it seems hopeless at times. But Peyronies Disease does strange things, and sometimes, the changes are actually for the better. Just remember that.

Litani,
Nemo has given you very good advice. Don't give up until you are in the stable phase and have given it every chance. Once you give up, there are only two choices that I see. You can have surgery, or you can learn to live with it. Improvement takes months, not weeks or days. You have to be dedicated to it. A lot of factors enter into the decision to give up, ie. your age, your degree of impairment, your overall health, etc. so don't give up until you feel you have tried everything available. And even then, there are things that can be done. In my case, I had surgery. Other men are having success with PRP injections. There is something out there that will work for you. If you feel like you have done all you can with VED, traction, Pentox, and supplements, then start looking at the next level, which would be surgery or injections. But don't give up. There is an answer for you. I hate to say you have to earn it, but you at least have to work for it. If you have reached that point, there are guys to talk to here. I can help with minimal surgery. Les can help with conventional surgery. Jackp can help with implants. Incautious can help with PRP injections. Help is still here. Never give up.

My life was ruined by this disease, but I am not giving up.
I tried many things, some takes time to see results, tomorrow I will have PRP injections.
If this also will not help, I will make an implant.
But I will never give-up

Even if it was predetermined that I could not get any better, I would be 100% committed to keeping it from getting worse.

I'll never give up on it or on any aspect of myself.

Litani- I can understand your frustration. I got nailed with this a year and a half ago, and have seen only minor improvement, and I have been very diligent for most of that time. I followed a lot of protocols. Oral, topical, VED and traction.I stopped the topical and oral treatment after about 6 months. I continue with the VED and Traction, but take a week off here and there for sanity purposes. Try taking short breaks from therapy, it makes the long haul more tolerable. Regards Inkhorn

Thanks for all the responses.  I wake up early to do the VED.  I come home straight from work to wear the Traction.  I have reminders on my phone to take pentox and supplements on time.  I do all this more enthusiastically if I see a shred of improvement.  Sorry guys that I was a bit frustrated yesterday since I do not see progress.  I will carry on.

I'm quite sure that VED and traction work ONLY if there is something that soften the scar tissue.
If pentox doesn't work in your case (also in my case it has been useless) you can try as last thing the priapus shot.
After 17 days i have some improvments and i hope that i will have other improvments in the next weeks.
I was very, very near to suicide, but this treatment has given to me an hope.

NEVER GIVE UP.
Tho give up, on any subject, was not and is not an option for me. :)
In my case, I was more lucky with the VED, Pentox and low dose Cialis, it softened my calcified plaques to the point that the doctor was able to inject the PRP directly into them.
And if the PRP will not bring me back to a satisfactory situation, I will make an implant. ;D
So always have hope, no reason to give-up.

Hi Nemo and all learned members,

Is there any idea how many of Peyronies Disease members are staying with normal sex life with slightly less capacity as you said?

Hi Litani,

I can have almost normal sex life, just needed some adjustment. My dent is  mild. But 2 of 1 plaque is calcified. When I saw a doctor in India, seeing all this He asked me what is your problem? lol .

No problem? I have Peyronies Disease, dent? ( that time no calcification) Doctor said as long as u can have sex, no problem.

He just prescribed Cialis for ED.

Best regards,

Chand

I don't want to use harder words than he is completely incompetent with no Peyronies knowledge.

So much truth in these words...

This exactly what I was told. It's absolute tosh. At the time my case was very mild, and years of no real therapy later it's really quite bad. Inept urologists have the ability to ruin a very important aspect of our lives and our partner's lives, our sexual relationships. That initial point of diagnosis appears to be the very best time to start treatment to prevent it turning into a severe case.
