Hi all,

I'm 18 and now almost three weeks post-op and have a number of questions that I hope can be cleared up. I was treated for congenital downward curvature about 35-40 degrees.  For the first two weeks everything seemed quite fine, the minor swelling and bruising went down after a few days and I never experienced much pain. However I became concerned with my erections, they were not only painful but uneven, the area around the incision site would become hard but the rest especially the base wouldn't to the same extent, causing my penis to point downwards. I'm wondering if I shouldn't be assessing these erections until everything heals properly? Nevertheless it's a concern that I've gone through this procedure for nothing.

Two days ago however I woke up suddenly feeling as if I had burst sutures, it was extremely painful and my penis became extremely swollen, more so than after the procedure itself. i checked the external sutures which were all intact, so I thought it may also possibly be a penile fracture. My doctor told me I had burst a blood vessel and said not to worry until I see my urologist who I'll be seeing in a few days. Right now the swelling has decreased quite a bit however it is very bruised. This morning I again woke up feeling as if I had burst a stich again, however this was not accompanied with the swelling again. the external sutures remain intact but I'm starting to think I have burst the internal sutures? If so, could this undermine any corrections made? I hope this pain I have been experiencing in the mornings isn't causing damage.

Hope someone can explain this situation!

Thanks!

Norm

You better get thee to the doctor now! What you are describing, even if normal, needs to be seen by your physician.

Hi,
I saw my GP two days ago he was the one who said I had burst a blood vessel. I have an appointment with my urologist tomorrow, hoping all is fine however seriously worried.

Also, I'm simply wondering if the nesbit procedure will have internal as well as the external sutures? If so it seems these are the ones that have been bursting every morning for the last few days?

I'll repeat what Norm said that you need to get back to your doctor. There is no way you can describe to us what happened and expect anyone here to able to tell you what is going on. I just know what you described is not normal and you should get it checked.

For Nesbit yes there are sutures that are placed on the Tunica.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply I saw my urologist earlier today he seems to think this bruising and swelling is a normal part of recovery. Three days on from what happened the swelling has gone down considerably and I'm in less discomfort so hopefully everything will be fine.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Two months since surgery now and still a lot of problems. I have a hematoma that remains from when I burst a blood vessel but that's the least of my worries. I can feel these lumps underneath the skin that when I have erections they cause pain and erections to be bent again perhaps more so than previously before surgery. This is causing me a lot of stress as it appears that what should be a resolved thing by now (6 weeks or so is usual recovery?) is in fact a worse situation than I was in previously. It seems like I've gone through surgery for nothing. Is it possible that surgery for a congenital curvature can result in scar tissue that causes peyronies? Will that scar tissue ever heal? If not my situation is simply a lot worse than what it was before and it's very depressing.

You should see the surgeon as soon as you can and explain him the problem, see what he will say.
By the way, did you check how many surgeries he is doing a month/year before going under the knife?
Wish you everything will be fine but if no, don't lose hope because I know people that had second corrective very successful surgery

DSilva. You need to report back to your doctor ASAP, insist. The situation does not look normal. what i dont understand is how do you burst a blood vessel just like that, i mean do you have blood circulatory problems, did you force anything (well blood vessels are very resistant), etc...? I suppose not because generally before this surgery blood exams are done to check for any circulatory system pathologies (like blood coagulation, blood flow, etc...). Im more inclined to maybe a suture failure, probably a mild one, also you report recurrent curvature (this maybe a clue). At this stage your penis should not be bent. Sometimes there is a mild persistant curvature (i mean 10ยบ at max.) but that is generally caused by bad calculation during surgery correction or the sutures losen a bit (weak tensile force during healing).
In my opinion your doctor is not following you correctly. The lumps you feel maybe part of the lets call it "re-healing" (or second healing attempt) after the failure. In my opinion your doctor should do you a eco-doppler/doppler ultrasound, anything that really objectively acesses the problem.
Im with James dont lose hope! you will surely solve this problem. Contact your doctor.
By the way im not a urologist or a doctor, my opinion here is based in what i've read all these years, what i've talked with doctors and also my own experience of having my congenital curvature corrected 1 year ago. Actually tomorrow will be 1 year post-op.

Hi everyone,

At this stage now things have become a lot better! The hematoma has shrunk to be almost nothing now and the scars have healed up and are much less prominent than before. The healing process took a lot longer than expected due to me bursting a blood vessel but now things are much better actually! Unfortunately there is still a bend but after all I've been through I don't mind, my girlfriend and I started having sex again around 2 months ago and everything's great haha! Thanks so much for your help and advice it's really appreciated! Hopefully when I'm completely healed the bend will come good but I'm doubtful about that! Will be seeing my urologist again shortly,

Regards
