Hello to all.

My name is Bill.

I just wanted to introduce myself quickly as a matter of formality. I live in Australia and was diagnosed with Peyronies a few days ago after a fairly long battle (9 months) to get a referral from a willing GP to see a urologist with an interest in this area of medicine. Anyone who knows how the socialized system here works would understand that my italicized "willing GP" caused a  delay in getting a formal diagnosis from a urologist. The system here is such that a GP (General Practitioner or "Family Doctor") must first evaluate the patient, then write out a referral to a specialist. Finding a willing GP was not easy as only 1 of the 7 GP's I saw was willing to examine me. The next hurdle was finding a urologist with knowledge of this disease. I struck "gold' on my 10th phone call. I am also fortunate enough to have an anaesthetist for a brother in-law. I had to dispense with modesty in order to show him a photo of my erect penis with a dent in the right side near the base. Though it isn't very large, it does cause a bend to the right and has stopped me from finding a soul mate. He advised me to bring it when I went to the urologist and he said that it certainly looked like Peyronies to him. As I said, that is now the urologist's formal diagnosis as of a few days ago.

I'm 58 and was divorced in 1989. I've had 2 intimate relationships since then. About 11 months ago I noticed swelling on the right side. I was then in 3rd year of a relationship I thought would last until death. She also noticed it but in ignorance, we both put it down to some rather strong intercourse the night before. The swelling gradually reduced but within 2 months the dent formed and has since not resolved. Whilst it isn't large, it still embarrassed me and in my stupidity, I withdrew from getting intimate with her and we split up. I've been looking for a forum like this and found it tonight. I don't have any problem attaining and maintaining an erection, but I'm worried sick that this malady will progress and ruin my chances of re-kindling or starting a relationship.

For now, I've been given advice on using this VED properly. There has been absolutely no mention of traction or Pentox. This is the first time I ever heard of those and it leaves me wondering if my urologist truly knows what he's doing. I am certainly going to ask outright for a prescription asap. I've printed out the studies and other forms just for that purpose. Even my GP could prescribe it. I'm seeing him next week. I'm not scheduled to see the urologist for another month. As a last resort (if I am refused Pentox) I will ask my brother in-law, even though it may be a "conflict of interest" to do so. We shall see.

That's about it for now. I will post again after I see my GP; hopefully with good news.

Best regards to all

Norm

Bill,
Since you have already been battling this for almost a year, you are probably in a stable situation. By that I mean, it probably won't get worse. You are at the point where you can work on trying to regain some of what you lost. The VED is a very good way to do that. VED vs. traction is a personal choice for you to make after you study the pros and cons of each. You can find all that info here on this forum. Pentox is not a cure, but it is certainly the gold standard of the choices we have available. It helps with blood flow to the penis, and that is what we are all trying to achieve. If you can't get the Rx from your doc, there are online pharmacies where you can. If you have not read the Must Read document yet, please do, as it is full of the basic information that you need to know to fight this. Spend as much time reading and studying on this forum as you can. It won't be time wasted.

Bill;
First of all, read all you can on this site. Believe me when I say that there is more real information here than possessed by the vast majority of Urologists. Going with what Norm has said, blood flow to the penis is essential. Orally, you should definitely look at Pentox. Also consider, Ubiquinol, ALC, and Arginine.

Unfortunately, the fight against this is a marathon, not a sprint. But yes, it can be mitigated, and in some cases beaten altogether.

On this site, you have a bunch of, mostly highly intelligent guys, who between them have literally hundreds of years of collective experience fighting this damn disease. If you need any help, just ask.

I would add that using Pentox with low dose Cialis (2.5 mg) and Ubiquinol together with VED has helped and helping many to stop and even revers the symptoms.

In one point I don't agree with Norm:

The acute stage last up to 18 months but in many cases much more, like mine for example lasted 30 months and started again at 42 months.
