What does "stable" mean, and why is it important?

I am seriously considering plication surgery for a moderate curve. But I have had a number of acute phases over the five year period I've had the disease. Maybe five acute phases. It seems like any stress along the axis of the scar causes further scarring. Even a uro exam caused an acute phase. So wouldn't it stand to reason that surgery would just cause further scarring or create a new one? It never is really stable, it just waits for another reinjury. So does it really matter if it's "stable"?

It seems the majority of men who get this have an initial acute period which then stabilizes after about 16-18 months.  So if one was going to become stable then you would want to wait for this time period before any surgery. It seems in you case that your condition is not stabilizing, so surgery might be a risk. You should discuss this with your surgeon as I would think he/she wound NOT want to perform the surgery with this risk for you.
