Can being out of shape play a role in developing Peyronie's, or is this something very physically fit men develop?

Hawk

the answer is probably yes and yes.  When you ask CAN it play a ROLE.  Out of shape is unhealthy.  In theory everything from our immune system to our insulin is affected so in theory it could have some role.  In fact it has a role in cancer, heart disease, and much more.  Men in great shape get all of those diseases however because it is just a "roll".  It is far from the whole story.

Yeah... I guess it was a dumb question on my part. I've been more out of shape the last few years and wonder if that may be one of the key reasons this has developed.

Hawk

Lot of men that are in shape get Peyronies Disease.  Most men that are out of shape don't get Peyronies Disease.  When we try to assume that A causes B simply because A came before B we are using superstition not reason.  That's why older men think Viagra causes Peyronies Disease and younger men think masturbation causes it,  Thats what they were doing in their life.  They got Peyronies Disease.  It must have been caused by it.

John B:

Hawk is correct in what he is saying about causation.

The only thing to consider is if you have been out of shape, where has your testosterone level been all this time? When not exercising and not eating right, your testosterone can decline sharply. Peyronie's struck me a few months after my testosterone dropped so I would urge you to get that checked by having a full blood panel done, which would include the following:

Testosterone Free
Testosterone Total
Thyroid Panels (T3, T4, TSH)
IGF-1
CMP Profile
Lipid Profile
CBC w/Diff profile
PSA
C-Reactive Protein
DHEA-sulfate
LH
Estrogens
Vitamin D

Also, check this out regarding testosterone and Peyronie's:

Keep in mind that just because your testosterone levels drop does not mean that you're gonna get Peyronie's. But your testosterone level dropping is bad because it leaves you vulnerable to Peyronie's and may make healing from it more difficult.

In my opinion, you should always try to stay in the best shape possible. Not only is general fitness good for your body, it's good for your mental state also - possibly a significant factor in your chances of recovery.
As has been said, workouts and some weight training are good for raising Test levels, also.
