Questions
What reliable congenital curve correction surgeons are there in the UK?
What are the costs of such a procedure? (does the NHS help with the costs given my status?)
What is the general effectiveness of the surgery(failure rate other effects)?
Are there any other alternative treatments to congenital?

My status
not a UK national
year 2 student in the UK
congenital curve (probably) ~50 degrees downwards
have only visited GP about problem (I am about to get a referral to an urologist)

Other
Any feedback about congenital curve/peyronies treatments in UK or anywhere else in Europe is greatly appreciated. I am particularly interested in what doctors are good, a rough estimate of the costs, and surgery stories.

Please share information or relevant personal experiences (doctor encounters, surgery experiences + surgery outcomes - success or failure, other unwanted effects< ED or penile shortening>).

From what I gather it is really important to find a really capable doctor. I am positive that gathering this collection of information here will help not only me but a lot of other people in the UK/Europe region.

Thank you very much for your help.

ferenfar,
There is a board dedicated to those who have posted results. You will find those here:
https://www.peyroniesforum.net/index.php/board,43.0.html
There are several here (including myself) who have had a successful surgery. From implents, to excision, to plication. We don't generally recommend surgery unless it is a last resort. Surgery carries risks, but can also carry rewards.

Thank you Les,

I have read that section.

As far as I know for congenital curve there is no alternative but surgery.

I would still very much like to learn about surgeons and surgeries in Europe. Who to go to? How much does it cost? Thank you.

Luciano

Actually I dont know any good surgeons here in europe.
But there certainly are some.

For congenital most suggest nesbit or similar surgery. (mainly because plaque incision or excision does not apply.)
As for the pricing, there it depends on what type of surgery. How much your insurance will cover etc..
but basically, excision surgery would cost around 15.000€
that is without hospital (if you stay overnight)
Nesbit would be cheaper like 30% less.

I would not go to some specialised institutes (you have some in germany, serbia and france). Patients have reported very low satisfaction.

The best thing is to find a specialist that is known to have done good jobs in the past an who has done at least 100 surgeries.

When you get your referal to an uro, make sure he is also up to date with Peyronies Disease.
Most of the urologists have homepages, if on that homepage he writes about Peyronies Disease, and says take vit E and wait, he is not your man.

Luciano -thanks for your advice.

Sounds very sensible. I will try to research and find a skilled doctor, although it is kind of discouraging that you don''t know any. Do you how any idea of how I could learn about them?

By reading through the forums, I understand that some doctors in the US are presumably very good, but I just do not have the financial resources to go there.

If anyone has heard of a good surgeon in Europe, please let me know.

Luciano

well that I dont know any, does not mean anything.
I have never even looked in GB. Although I think i did read here that there are some.
Also check out those that are taking part in the xiaflex study. They are bound to at least give you good advice.

That is also my understanding. Congenital curvature means your tunica was given that shape since birth. So you are actually trying to reshape your penis, nad surgery is likely the only ooption from what I have studied as well.

Thanks for your posts guys.

I am currently trying to get in contact with people who have sought treatment in the UK. Many mention David Ralph's team as being the best. I'm having a look into that.

If anyone has any more information about this particular doctor or the question in general, please post here.

Hi Ferenfar,
I have recently been sent to see Paul Hegarty, Consultant Urologist at Guy's Hospital, London.
I would strongly advise you to seek an appointment with him.
He is very knowledgeable in this field and has some good reccommendations for treatment.
Let me know how you get on.
(First I went to my sexual health clinic to seek referal to the Urology Centre at Guy's hospital. )
Good luck!

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the reference, I have already booked an appointment with David Ralph though and I'm waiting to see how that unfolds.

I will post about my experience as soon as I go through the process.

It would be great if you could let us know how your appointment went, I'm sure there are a lot of people on the forum who would appreciate it.

Best of luck,
ferenfar
