I am 33, I have an extreme curve to the left with confirmed calcified plaque. I can achieve and maintain an erection, but the bend makes sex almost unbearable for my fiance. I am currently using Pentoxy and a VED device, but not sure if it's going to help bc of the calcification. I have to also add that I am a type 1 diabetic which isn't great for wound healing. Please give me some help.

You need to go to one of the great peyronies doctors.

Dr. Milam at Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN.

Dr. Levine in Chicago

Dr. Lue in California.

You don't want a general practice urologist. You need a male sexual function specialist for the best outcome.

Are any one of those three better than the other?

My personal choice, and that of man others that have been there, is Dr. Douglas Milam at Vanderbilt in Nashville. He is a male sexual function specialist and urodynamic specialist. That means he does more than just implants. He does anything involving your sex organ.

I have more information about him posted on my blog. Also his web site is www.milamurology.com/

He will do a through consultation and sit down with you and discuss your options. He wants to do what is right for you. The last time I saw him, 6 weeks ago, I thought sure I needed another TURP for my prostate. After through testing all I needed was a medicine to control my bladder.

Any questions let me know. If you want to ask something personal off forum just send me a PM or email.

Not to disagree with JackP on his choice of "the top 3" but, obviously depending on your location, I would also suggest Dr. Lyle Lundblad in the Minneapolis area (Eden Prairie) as one of the best for male sexual disorders and certainly for implant surgery. He's helped many men in the midwest with Peyronies Disease as well as ED.

I saw him for nearly a year and we finally decided to go with the AMS LGX prothesis in August of 2009. In my opinion, he is an outstanding urologist and really, really knows his profession. He is not in a group so there is opportunity for a genuine bond of trust to develop. I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome.

Just my 2 cents worth. I know JackP has his favorite and I am sure that Dr. Milam would be an excellent choice.

There are a few others around like Dr. Lundbale. That is one reason I usually ask what area of the country someone lives in. It will help narrow it down to a good doctor closer to you.

As I have said many times, for advanced treatment you need a Male Sexual Function Specialist not a general practice urologist.

I'm in Southern California, but I'd travel anywhere. I love my fiance and I know she loves me, but I can see how uncomfortable sex is for her and it's hard enough to be good in bed and even harder when you're stabbing her kidney! I will take any advice that I can get and JackP I'd love more info on the doc.

gap2117,

Go see Dr. Tom Lue at UCSF in San Francisco (phone # for appointments: 415-353-2200). You will need a referral from your current urologist or family practitioner before getting an appointment with Dr. Lue, basically just a confirmed diagnosis of Peyronie's from another physician. Definitely call Dr. Lue's office and they will tell you exactly what you need. If you are in So Cal this is a very easy trip to see one of the best Peyronie's physicians in the U.S.

Dr. Lue can tell you if surgery is right for you and which type would be best for your situation. I believe he performs several types of Peyronie's surgeries himself (nesbit, etc.) but I don't know if he does implants, he may refer you to another physician. Anyway, Dr. Lue and his staff are great and they prefer that you bring your spouse because she is a key part in improving your sex life and getting treatment.

Best,

Another great doctor is southern California is Dr. Steven Wilson in Indio CA. He also does all kind of penile procedures including an implant if that is what you need.

If you can maintain an erection for successful intercourse over 80% of the time without aid of pills or shots you are probally not a candidate for an implant.

All of this should be discussed with the doctor at a consultation.

Great info guys. Thank you so much. As of right now, I can achieve an erection 100% of the time without pills or anything else. It does make me self conscious with the bend, but it's there. This is what I am looking for and please tell me if I am being unrealistic:

1. I want my penis completely straightened or at least nearly straight.
2. I don't want to lose size.
3. I don't want to lose the ability to achieve erections without assistance.

Is Dr. Lue or Dr. Wilson comparable to Dr. Milam?

IMHO Dr. Milam is the best of the three. I know what he has done for me and others.

1. I want my penis completely straightened or at least nearly straight.
2. I don't want to lose size.
3. I don't want to lose the ability to achieve erections without assistance

1. You should be within 10 degrees of straight.
2. Depending on what has to be done and the severity of your curve you have to be prepared to loose some length. That is best discussed with the doctor at the time of your consultation with an exam.
3. With the right doctor and procedure you should not loose the ability to have an erection without assistance.

I like those odds in an  implant procedure with the most up to date prosthetic.I am already sold been reading about it off and on from the first time you put me in my place.I have yet to read anything that begs to different from your words.

With out doubt you have made a big impact on me and when that time comes I only want your council in the matter.

If your erection are unchanged and the main symtpom is the curve, Nesbit procedure would be less invasive in your case, don't you think so ?

Thanks for the kind words. I know the HELL most men are going through on this forum. I have done a lot of research on peyronies and procedures to help men like us.

I had a lot of help along the way. Old Man and Hawk just to name a few. Dr. Milam and Todd Doran at Vanderbilt have been a great help. Todd has been kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to answer questions. At my one year check up I talked to him and Dr. Milam almost an hour, that is almost unheard of these days for a doctor or his staff to take that much time with you.

I have been able to learn a lot. I have been asked why don't I write a book. Well, I am not a writer and consider what I do a ministry. I can post information here and other forums, my blog, and answer a lot of PM's and emails, and phone calls. God gave me a lovely wife and a gift I can never repay. That said I continue to be available to answer any questions form anyone. I ask nothing in return and do not run a forum that ask for money form it's members. I am not a doctor, I am not connected with any doctor, hospital, device or company, just a lay person that has been there. Now I am just happy to help others.

Come October 23rd it will be the 3rd anniversary of my implant surgery at Vanderbilt. I am in the process of writing my journey through the last 3 years and hope to have it available to post by the end of the month.

What you want is what we all want. We want our erections to be the way it was before we ever heard of Peyronies Disease. It is going to be difficult to find anyone who has been to all the "good" doctors (Lue, Levine, Milam) and be able to recommend one over the other. And each of us will likely recommend the doctor that that we sought out treamtment and effectively helped us. I went to Dr. Levine and he "straightened" me out. I think as highly of Levine as others feel about Lue and Milam. The positive thing here is that we are slowly starting to recognize doctors that specialize and treat this disease.

From what Gap has explained he has almost a 90 degree curve. Nesbit procedure generally is not effective for curves greater than 40 degrees. There would be much loss of length if Nexbit was used to straighten a 90 degree curve. I would not recommend it.
