Dent-n-curve

I completed round two of my first Xiaflex aeries with Dr. Carrion this morning (round 1 yesterday)

Doc's instructions were to remove the wrap after 6 hours.  After removing the wrap a bit later than that this afternoon, I felt a some stinging pains along the dorsal where the injections were targeted ..  and though it looked fine (a little swollen and bruised), about 40 minutes later, I found a crazy looking big purple balloon on the dorsal side

Terrified, I called for the on-call doctor, who calmed my terror slightly by surmising that it's a hematoma.  I've tried to makeshift wrap it again, per his advice, and I'm going to try to get the Doc to see me in the office tomorrow morning

Any other words of advice here?

Yowsa, sorry to hear that. Dr. Trost recommends wrapping for several days after injections. The first layer is soft gauze and then 3M Coban over that. I am not a doctor and can not give medical advice, however, Xiaflex is no joke. I had wrapped for the recommend 3 days after injections, thought things were in the clear and stopped wrapping. On the 5th night post injection, I must have had a pleasant dream, got an erection and blew up like a balloon. Wrapping immediately resumed but the horse was out of the barn.

Perhaps take a browse through threads discussing post-injection wrapping. I did get a prescription for Indomethacin, a very powerful anti-inflammatory and that seemed to help. Good luck and please keep us posted.

Thanks, riches!

Yeah, I've been rewrapping it which has reduced the balloon. It's still a puffy, gruesome and deep purple version of its former self.  My doc (or his PA) suggested that some do better with just one day of wrapping and others do better with a few days, but that it's good to alternate instead of 24 hour burrito mode.

Regardless, it seems to be in the slow process of resolving.

Tomorrow will be the 5th day post prick-pricking and I will frightfully and gently resume Restorex with all this puffy purple skin

Tips for post-blowup RestoreX use:
1. instead of using makeup pads, wrap the top and bottom of the clamp with Coban. This will give  you some more clearance
2. At the very least, take Motrin and Tylenol a couple hours before Restorex. Motrin helps with inflammation, Tylenol helps with pain
3. This is pretty far-out but it worked for me: I went to Target and bought several tubes of maximum-strength Orajel. This is a lidocaine-based gel for dental and mouth pain. I applied it on my (unit) 30 minutes before using the Restorex and it definitely numbed things.
4. Icing before and after Restorex helped
5. Pain is in the brain. If things hurt like a witch while using Restorex, distract yourself. I would walk around, curse, look out the window etc. Distraction helped.

All of the above was conveyed to Dr. Trost. Without quoting him directly, his philosophy is to do what you need to do to use the Restorex post injection. Xiaflex is only active for a few days post-injection so time is of the essence. I sound like a broken record, however, I put on the Restorex and cranked it to the max only about 8 hours after the second round of injections. Dr. Trost thinks that this aggressive use helped bring about a "one and done" treatment result.

Gentle wrapping is not harmful and Dr. Trost told me that extended periods of wrapping only become an issue if things get chapped and/or get wet and topical infection results. I bought a mother load of Coban and quality gauze and was changing several times a day; coupled with application of Neosporin to prevent chapping and infection and there were no adverse effects from wrapping. Early on he told me that his regimen is quasi-military and that his protocols need to be followed to get optimal results. Restorex use after my blowup was excruciating but I bit the bullet and kept going. All of that is in the rearview mirror now. Good luck and please keep us posted.
