Hi everyone.

On Wednesday 28th June I had penile implant surgery (Coloplast) at the Western General hospital in Edinburgh (Scotland). The procedure went well and i return to see the consultant in 6 weeks when i will be shown how to use the inflation / deflation pump.

I feel ok just now however as expected there is significant bruising and swelling. The consultant urologist also inflated the prothesis to 50% which make my penis feel even more inflated. I was told after the swelling goes down it will feel more natural and the 50% inflation less noticeable.

Has anyone on this forum had this procedure done ? I'd be interested to hear how your recovery went and the timescales for swelling etc.I was told the swelling can take up to 2 weeks to reduce.

Thanks

Davie

Hey Davie,

Hope you're healing up well and will be back in motion soon.

Did you get this done for free under the NHS or pay private?

I'm from London but currently looking into my options within the UK to have an implant so curious how others have done so honestly.

Thank you

Thanks very much and yes I think things are going in the right direction. My procedure was through NHS Scotland however I did wait  3 years for surgery after I had my consultant appointment. COVID was a big factor.

As it is just now there is significant bruising and swelling and as I wrote above, and a 50% activation of the prosthesis. That certainly restricts the clothing I can wear.

I'm 57 years old and the last 4 years has certainly put the physical side of my relationship on hold but hopefully in about 5 weeks the bit of discomfort I have just now will be a thing of the past.

Thanks for your posts.
Please add to your signature lines, the date of implant, doctor name, type of device, etc.
I would highly suggest that you read the various journals of men that have had this procedure.
You will learn ALOT from their posts.
I am not sure why this is, but it seems the England surgeons are more conservative in the pump/no pump procedures.
I would suggest you reading the advantage of pumping earlier versus waiting to pump.
Please read our journals as you will find very important information.
Good luck in your journey.

Right yes I see you've had peyronies since 2019 so quite some wait time to go ahead with this. How was the whole process? How was Mr Shukla? Do you see any length regained?

It's great to hear honestly that people in the UK are able to get it on the NHS as another member did so also it seems. I think it'll be the route I take but want to make sure I find the right doctor who understands peyronies too.

It was a long wait and it certainly had an impact not only on my physical health but also my mental health. Mr Shukla was great as were all staff, especially anaesthetists and ward staff. I'm 3 days post surgery so still a bit of swelling. I need to make sure my top is pulled down before I leave the house !!

The swelling and 50% inflated makes it a bit uncomfortable however I'm told once the swelling has reduced it'll feel very normal.

So far so good.

With regards to length / girth it's still too early to say. I see Mr Shukla after 6 weeks so I'll be shown how to inflate and deflate etc.

Congrats on the implant Davie, I cant really add too much more than what you have written, yes the swelling will subside over a few weeks, I suggest to watch some of the youtube tutorials on how to inflate and deflate your implant, for me inflate is very easy, the deflate took me months to get right, one time would be immediate, next time a hour, keep practicing once your doc gives you the ok, I was also 6 weeks inflated  ;D

Thanks very much for your reply, you've certainly given me a bit of reassurance. The consultants were great prior to discharge but I'm the worlds biggest worrier. I feel I'm walking around with a aching erection - Which I guess I am. I've been told to wait until I see my consultant again (6 weeks post surgery) until the prosthetists is inflated / deflated etc. I'll have my practical exam that day !!

A quick question if I may. Even with a 50% inflation, once swelling goes down, will my penis feel and sit in my underwear relatively normally ? I hope I've worded that correctly.

Thanks.

Davie.

How long roughly was you waiting on the waiting list for this under the NHS? If you don't mind.

I'm abroad right now but guess I got to go back to the UK to get this all started eventually. I want to live abroad and have started already so it's awful timing but guess gotta do what ya gotta do.

Good luck mate

I had 2 local hospital appointments prior to being referred to Mr Shukla probably late 2019. I was advised to try using a vacuum pump as a corrective device prior to that. As a result of COVID-19 I didn't get my consultant appointment until June 2021 - a considerable and distressing wait. As you can see, it took a further 2 years to get to the operating table. During this time I complained via Chair of NHS Lothian (Edinburgh) the CEO of same and my local MSP. Eventually I got a single point of contact who was the urology waiting list manager who was very helpful and kept me fully updated re surgery times. My initial surgery date, (26/4/23) was cancelled due to an emergency case which I fully respect.

I was told to try to keep my penis upwards towards my belly button, it wouldnt stay there for too long and kept going to my leftside, alot more comfortable for me, just get used to loose clothing and long shirts for the 6 weeks..........it never felt normal too me for the 6 weeks.............the 6 weeks will go quickly and then it will be time to use your new toy, good luck.

In my case nearly 1 year since my implant I dont even know its in there, unless I have a feel around my ball sack and I can feel the pump.................and when deflating I can feel the cylinders inside my penis deflating...............ive had a few different partners and not one of them has noticed I have an implant, or they havent mentioned it to me.

My only regret was listening to my Uroligists advice many years ago telling me I will just have to live with Peyronies, no mention of implants from him, my own research found out there is a solution, then covid came along and forced me to wait a few more years, all that is behind me now (I hope lol)

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Yip, I've tried to keep my penis pointed to the sky but like you, it prefers the left side !!  Going to the toilet just now is difficult and uncomfortable with regards to the swelling and 50% inflation. I'm hoping when the swelling goes down (2 weeks ) I'll be able to stand and have a pee like normal. I'd love to go for a beer but maybe not a good idea. Long T shirts are definitely my clothes of choice lol. I'm a school teacher but in Scotland it's now summer break - that's for the better !!

Your urologist certainly tried to pull the wool over your eyes but well done you for keeping at it. Prior to surgery, when I was hard, the curve was so a cute the tip of my penis touched my body. Thankfully that'll be well in the past.

Wow thats a long wait Davie, I appreciate you sharing. Well I'm glad things are looking up for you now - no pun intended.

Also interesting to hear your take Gap63 on urologist not mentioning implants and telling you to live with it. It seems the implants are the fast way to being happy and normal again. Everyone seems very satisfied it seems.

It's been great exchanging messages with you guys. I'm probably not unique worrying about post surgery swelling / discomfort etc. I'm fairly confident the size and swelling of my penis is totally normal - the reality is I'm only 5 days post surgery and I'm expecting to be totally fixed and pain free. Absolutely no chance !!  It'll be interesting to see how it goes once the swelling does go down and I'm left 50% inflated for a few weeks. I hope I can put on my boxers and let things sit where they normally do and without having to pull my T shirt down over my groin lol. This is probably way too much information but I actually bought a urine bottle as it's easier to urinate into it than try and force my penis down or to an angle which would let me pee - without making a mess.

I've got to smile. If I didn't I'd cry 😂😂

Davie,

If you read some of the journals on this site, you will find out:
1. Many the things you experience have been documented by other individuals.
2. Many of us also had urologists who failed to mention implants.
4. You will actually learn ALOT and nothing is "too much information"!
Be well

Yup no information is too much, more the merrier as I'm learning as I read. I can fully imagine needing some type of urination device during the healing stage.

When I broke my arm or when I broke my nose both required surgery and even metal plates in the arm. Recovery time was slow at the beginning and I just had to rest so I just look at this as another one of those things that'll be 1 month of just relaxation/healing for the most part then I try get things moving again.

All the best

Roddy

Hi Davie

I rarely come on the forum anymore but lived in here for about 2 years. I thought I'd have a look and see what was happening and saw your new story. I was intrigued as so few posters are from the UK and even less from Scotland. I'm from Glasgow and had my surgery on the NHS (Coloplast Titan too) in 2019 4 years ago now. You may want to dive into my journal to help your understanding of the healing process. This forum and all its knowledge came to my rescue, so to speak, as there's so little knowledge of Peyronies and implants elsewhere. My journal is at:

https://www.peyroniesforum.net/index.php/topic,11929.0.html

I'll stay around moving forward and help if I can.

Good luck.

That's fantastic Roddy I'll have a look later. I think I'm doing ok but probably like us all, think I'm not. Surgery was only last week and already a couple of the stitches have said goodbye so decent progress. The swelling I have now is mainly to the testicles - penis swelling seems gone albeit I have the 50% inflated issue to deal with.
