I strongly believe that there will be a treatment in the next 5-7 years based on CAR-T therapy, utilizing mRNA tech. In vitro CAR-T therapy has been a game-changer for certain types of cancers. Now, with mRNA-based delivery it's possible to achieve similar results in vivo and target any type of cell, including fibrotic cells. Benefit of mRNA-based delivery is that the CARs only last for a few days, making it less risky and cheaper. This will likely start with targeting heart disease and lung fibrosis.

This is legit research out of U Penn. In 2019, they targeted heart fibrosis with traditional CAR-T therapy in animal models:

Then, in 2022, they did it again but this time in vitro using mRNA injection (which is the potential breakthrough):
