Hinge effect at base. Can traction help?

Have hinge effect at base. Very seldom can feel really hard but most of time hinge effect is impacting.

Anyone have experience improving hinge effect at base?

Particularly interested to know did traction help as I want avoid VED. A ring caused my injury so dont want to put one back on for VED
