Hi there, forum members. I'm new to the site (25 years old), and I've got a few questions for those of you who consider your Peyronie's to be caused by a specific injury.

Almost two weeks ago, I apparently went too hard during a masturbation session (even though I didn't think it was that vigorous) only to look down afterwards and see that my semi-flaccid penis was extremely swollen. My first reaction was "Oh my God, that looks nothing like me", and my second reaction was "Apply ice."

The next morning, it was less swollen, but still seemed to be fatter and harder than usual in its flaccid state. A few more days passed, and it seemed to be getting better bit by bit. Not "normal" size yet, but I'd say 90% better. There was never any pain either. I masturbated four days after the initial incident, and everything was operational, but then I got concerned about some bumps on the right side of the shaft. I have no clue whether those were there before, but to me, the shaft just seemed bumpier in general.

So since I'm a hypochondriac, I went to my GP. She took a look and said she didn't think it was anything to worry about, but to abstain from sex/masturbation for another week and then see how I feel. If it wasn't better by then, she'd refer me to a urologist.

Here's where I'm at:

  • Still no pain
  • No problem getting erections, but penis seems to "fill up" differently than before. The bottom fills up pretty quickly, and then the top hardens, instead of all at once
  • I might be crazy, but I think I hang longer in my flaccid state
  • A few bumps/ridges along the right hand side, mostly visible when flaccid. [Is there a place where we can post pics on this forum?]
Here are my questions:

  • There's a bit of a crease near the top that makes it easier to bend the head upwards. Is that what you call hinging?
  • I'm guessing the bumps/ridges are fibrosis? Are they more likely than not to turn into Peyronie's scarring, or should I still treat them gingerly and hope they heal up?
  • I have a raging libido, and this not masturbating thing is killing me. It sounds melodramatic and juvenile, but it's seriously all I can think about and it's interfering big time with regular life. I want to jerk off, but I'm definitely afraid of worsening the injury. In your own opinions, how long should I abstain?
Thanks for the advice in advance!

So opinion is divided (as you alluded to) about whether Peyronie's can be caused by an injury or whether Peyronies Disease occurs because of an abnormal response by the body to an injury. Mine was certainly brought on by the injury but I had some risk factors for Peyronie's (smoking), so my case doesn't really help answer that question.

My injury was so much more acute that I don't think my experience will be helpful to you, but what I will say is that I definitely wish I had abstained from all activity for a while. Whether or not you should abstain depends on how much pain you're having (sounds like none) and how acute your injury was. But at some point it does become healthy to have erections, since it will help mold the plaque and thus avoid curvature. It would be good to know more about the bumps without seeing them. Are they hard to the touch?

The one thing that I will say is that I had the exact same thing with respect to the "filling out", and having spoken to a couple other members I can say that is common among people with Peyronies Disease. But it can also be temporary. You said "no problem getting erections": does that mean it's exactly the same as before in terms of firmness?

As for the libido thing, I know where you're at. After my injury, the doctor's told me to wait a few days and then try again (they had no idea what they were doing and totally misdiagnosed me). I remember thinking "man a few days, that's rough", but now it's been more than a month since I've had sex and a few weeks since I've had an orgasm---down from having sex with my girlfriend 3-5 times a week. So I know it may seem hard now, but it's doable. And it's DEFINITELY not worth potentially hurting yourself more. I can't emphasize enough that you should see a specialist if you can and if you can get there relatively quick I would abstain until then. You are a young and healthy guy, you will have nocturnal erections naturally and those erections will be enough to keep your penis healthy for a week or two before you can get an ultrasound or something. If this is an injury which is still healing masturbation will certainly not be good for it, and if that is indeed the case you could do a lot of damage and make the scarring worse. Also, given that this injury occurred during masturbation, my guess is that your style of masturbation is not exactly gentle ;) I've only given myself a couple of erections since my injury (2+ months ago now) but both times I used lubricant, which I didn't use before, and a different hand motion. It actually felt a lot better and the orgasms were more intense. Even if this injury goes away, you're not yourself any favors masturbating in such a way that this kind of injury is possible. Use some lubricant and don't be so aggressive!

Anyway, there are other much more veteran members who hopefully will weigh in. The last thing I'd add is that there is one place you should be aggressive and that's with the doctor. Do some of your own research but don't shove it down his throat. Just be knowledgeable when you go in there. If he tells you to take Vitamin E and come back and see him in a year, he has no idea what he's talking about and you should see another doctor. Try to get an ultrasound if you can, which will detect plaques if they have hardened enough and will pick up the fibrosis (again, if it's bad enough). In the meantime, take a bunch of anti-inflammatory meds, they certainly won't hurt. And take pictures now, both in the flaccid and the erect state. It will help temper your hypochondria by giving you an objective baseline (take measurements as well). If indeed you have Peyronies Disease, they will then serve as a baseline so that you can see how the disease is progressing. I definitely wish I'd done that earlier.

I am proposing you to read first (if not read already the link bellow:
Peyronies Survival Guide - Information for New Members - Peyronies Society Forums
Regarding your questions and concerns:
You may have/you may have not "started" Peyronies.
I know is difficult to abstain from sex and/or masturbation for a healthy man in your age, but give it one week or 10 days to rest.
Your situation will be much more clear to you I suppose after this period.
I had never pain, except the moment of the injury during sex. Not everyone with Peyronies experiencing also pain.
The bumps/ridges may be there before the event you are detailing. When nothing happening, we are not so aware of any small thing.
You can post pictures on the link bellow:
https://www.peyroniesforum.net/index.php/board,47.0.html
Take in consideration that we are not doctors and what one will tell you is not a diagnosis, also can't really diagnose from a picture if it is Peyronies or not.
Regarding:
QuoteIs that what you call hinging?
Sorry disappointing you, it may be yes or no. After you will let your penis to relax a bit, maybe with a good erection you will not feel like that anymore.
Fibrosis is the scaring. You can't know that after two or three days. It may be inflammation that will just go away in one week or two.
Hope definitely yes, if you will start treating the Peyronies (if you have) in the early stages you may reverse the Peyronies symptoms.
Update us after your next visit to your GP (one week, no?) you will see how your situation will be, what is her opinion and we will be able to answer you also.
So just take a break and let's see how things will develop.

You are the first person I have seen mention the "crease".

I had several dark creases below the glans that became pronounced when this all started.
Definitely a sign of hinging and peyronies. After a few years of manual stretching the creases are gone and my symptoms have mostly disappeared. Take it easy and try to reduce further damage while in the active phase, this disease takes a long time to heal and deserves to be treated with the utmost seriousness.

Thanks for the detailed messages so far, everyone, much appreciated.

My doctor is away right now, but I'm going to a different one to get a uro referral this afternoon. Yesterday I had some burning sensations down there, which spooked me even more.

@alwaysreading: Yes, erections are just as firm as before. I get them in the mornings, and I can induce them too. I wouldn't say the bumps are hard, but they're pronounced enough to be seen clearly through the skin.

I've got some pics that I want to post, but I can't figure out how to do that over in https://www.peyroniesforum.net/index.php/board,47.0.html . Maybe I'm blind, but I can't see a button to upload images or attachments. The picture button just puts [image][/image] tags in :S

James: Strange... when I click Attachments and other options, I'm only seeing the "Lock this topic", "Don't use smileys", and "Return to this topic" options.

I tried on three different browsers (Chrome, Safari, and Firefox) and all the same. Any ideas?

Anybody else having issues? James, I sent you a PM. Maybe my account settings are weird.

I think you might have to have 5 posts before you can attach images. PM me and I can help.

btw....  I don't know that you need to abstain from sex or masturbation, but for sure you it would seem to be common sense to avoid rough or abusive types of masturbation.
