For men with or without peyronie's it appears to be the case that nocturnal erections are a sign of healthy sexual functioning. Where they are not present or are not frequent that is of course a concern. I've seen it mentioned here that Trazodone (Desyrel, Beneficat, Deprax, Desirel, Molipaxin, Thombran, Trazorel, Trialodine, Trittico) at doses of around 25mg can prove to be very helpful for night time erections, but I've had mixed experiences with it myself. The first time I took it I woke up with an erection that remained for around 20 minutes (which, in a sense in quite worrying, but at least not in priopism territory). Following on from that though, it has not resulted in regular morning erections, they do occur but by no means on a regular basis. This is making me wonder if I have built up some kind of immunity to it (that seems unlikely), or maybe it isn't as effective at times due to pre-sleeping habits (sometimes taking it with food, sometimes not). Another consideration is that 'maybe' it takes a few weeks to reach optimal effectiveness.

My day time erections are if anything, stronger than a few months ago (possibly due to the l-arginine + pycnogenol combo - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12851125?ordinalpos=6&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_DefaultReportPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum), so I'm wondering if there are any other alternative to trazodone when it comes to promoting night time erections?

I introduced Trazodone here and have used it regularly for 2years and off and on for several years. After 2 years of regular use, I did go through a period where I wondered if the NTE effect was diminishing. For that and several other reasons I discontinue Trazodone for a couple month. I now use it periodically and it works as good as ever.

However, just 2 days ago I started back on 2 Arginine capsules (Vasoflow), 60 mg pycnogenol, and a couple horny goat weed capsules about an hour before bed. Though it has been only two nights the effect seems almost as good as Trazodone. I think the pycnogenol made that combo really work for me. Time will tell.

I think this observed synergy between Pycnogenol and L-Arginine is really an important observation and really potentially very useful to a number of guys with Erectile Dysfunction issues. Thus I think it really does belong on the Erectile Dysfunction board since lack of nocturnal erections is a classic symptom of physiologically driven Erectile Dysfunction. Just my 2c. - George

I tend to take arginine with pycnogenol in the morning, but just arginine at night. I'll alter my routine to see if it makes a difference. It definitely does the trick during the day.

(I think the topic can potentially fit into either baord, but upon reflection I do see more reasons than not for why it should be located here (the Erectile Dysfunction Board).)

Certainly Erectile Dysfunction causes more trouble for some than others. Have you tried adding anything else to your routine. Maybe Tongkat Ali? Have you had your T-Levels checked?

I would also consider some pycnogenol 60mg

1/2 of a 50mg prescription trazadone also gives good results with nocturnal erections and costs only a couple cents per dose.

I'm currently trying to figure out what would be the best way to achieve nocturnal erections. Are you supposed to take l-arginine with the pyconogel? Should you take trazadone with them?

Just a note from my side of hte fence, trazodone did not help my erections at all.

My number one recommendation for nocturnal and morning wood is low dose naltrexone. The stuff is dynamite.

Mech1- Back when I could get an erection I took 5000mg of arginine 1 hr before sex. Worked as good as any Erectile Dysfunction med. Have not taken the pine bark in many years, but I think I will again. As far as horny goat weed, yohimbe etc, that worked but always made me feel weird. Inkhorn

My doctor started me on Viagra the week after it was available. Since then I have been on all the Erectile Dysfunction drugs. None of which helped me. I have seen nothing that to verify that the Erectile Dysfunction pills will give you peyronies.

There are Erectile Dysfunction drugs that will give you peyronies. Injections into the corpus caversonum for erections. Those are, but not limited to, PGE1 and tri-mix. None of those helped me either all they did was make my condition worse by causing corporal fibrosis.

The majority of men that start injections for Erectile Dysfunction stop within a year. My advice to anyone considering it is DON'T! If you do be aware of peyronies or the development of corporal fibrosis. If you have Erectile Dysfunction that does not respond to the drugs use a VED with constriction rings for sex.

The only damage Viagra can make you is if you have a hard erection with it and you will bend your penis by accident you may develop Peyronies.
It helped me for a while, now the effect is very limited.

im gonna try the 5000 grams of l- arginine to see if that works as advised on here if not I will give the Viagra a go my problem is I get erect ok but if I stop midway through for one reason or another I lose it quickly never used to happen could stay hard for ages I find it depressing as when having sex I feel like im rushing in case I lose my erection its horrible and the doctors here don't really seem to care

I started taking my L- Arginine in the morning and my PDE-5 inhibitor before I go to bed. At least that way you are spreading them out. So far, I still wake up with an erection every morning.

Hi. I know this is old post but couldn't see a newer one that specifically talked oral men's and nocturnal,erections

Background mid 40's with life time of Erectile Dysfunction issues that I've only just truly acknowledged, never had spontaneous erection or nocturnal erections that I can ever remember. Pyronies too although relatively mild. Started using VED unit 6 days ago after recommendation from urologist.

Hawks suggestion of trying 25mg Trazadone has been a revelation, last 2 nights and morning has been amazing. So this is what's supposed to happen. The effect on resting state size lasts most of day too.

Q - Is it safe to take viagra at same time as Trazodone?
Q2 - pycnogenol and L arginine doses to achieve similar effect to trazadone? Trazadone makes me a little groggy in morning so wondered if this might be a better combination.

Hi there, thanks for reply. My doctor said there were no issues with taking both as operated on different metabolic pathways.
I was just seeing if anyone had tried this as now I have NTE but still need to take something else to get it going for sexual arousal purposes

Vitamin D at night restored my erections and for many men I’ve spoken to. If you’re already taking it, then probably consider your diet and other supplements or cialis, as well as sexual habits.

I tried trazodone a few years ago and side effects were unbearable: headaches, insomnia, restlessness.

The combination L-arginine + pycnogenol was, however, very effective. There's a supplement called PRELOX that combines both ingredients. I took it for some time but I believe L-arginine worsened my hair loss, so I stopped.

Just thought I'd do an update. Taking 25mg trazadone started to lessen NTE after 4 days and only seems to make an effect if I stop taking it for a few days and then start again.

I since read around this forum and ordered up some L- Arginie, L- Citrulline and pycnogenol . I didn't expect it to work at all as just 'food supplements and pine wood extract. It's been over a week now and the results are nearly as good as trazadone for NTE and a noticeable size difference when at rest. It for once finally feels like its got some life in it when at rest.

Sadly when I need it to work it's still a battle and only really 'works' when I take sildenafil but that now I can take less to get the same effect. I get lower back ache with either cialis and sildenafil.

Q - Any other pde 5 that are less prone to this - is Levitra any good?

I'm taking (a day)
2000mg L- Arginine
1500mg L-Citrulline
130mg pycnogenol
25ug of Vit D

Q2- how long did VitD supplements take to make a difference?

Q3 - Anyone take Horny Goat Weed - Yohimbine with all that lot?

I'm going to start rattling with all this lot but I am astounded how much difference the amino acids and pycnogenol have made. I feel for once in a long long time there might be some light at end of the tunnel. I just need it to operate when I want it to.....

Vitamin D worked immediately for me, but probably could take a while until your vitamin D levels are restored.

Vitamin D plus consuming saturated fat and avoiding grains is what helps mine the most, as well as absolutely no porn whatsoever (which takes a month or two to see the benefits).

This is very interesting.

Are you saying that 5000 mg arginine as needed is as effective as Cialis or Viagra? Do you think arginine increases testosterone levels and could this worsen male pattern baldness? There are studies that claim this and I believe it was worsening my hair loss, so I stopped.

Hi.

Can anyone offer advice as morale is rather low at the moment. Almost a day after posting about the progress I had made with Arginine, Citrulline and pycnogenol I woke up to find I was back at square one.

1) Trazadone 25mg worked for 2 days in a row, if I stop taking it for a 3 days then start again seems to have similar effect but for a few days then nothing. I do feel quite groggy in the morning with even this low dosage. So I moved onto:

2) Arginine, citrulline & Pycnogenol worked great for NTE and general blood flow when at rest for exactly 13 days and now nothing for the last 3 days. I've not changed anything else.

I'm pretty upset after making what I thought was a breakthrough for 13 days.

Q - Has anyone else experience this tolerance/adaptation of arginine/pycnogenol combo?

Q2 - How much more arginine/citrulline can I take?

Any constructive advice would be welcome. Thanks.

I used Trazadone for many years and seemed at times to adapt to it so I would rotate off of it for a while. You can easily take 3,000 mg of L-Argine/L-Citrulline. Body builders often take much more. It can cause stomach upset on an empty stomach and sometimes a herpes simplex (cancer sores in the mouth although I never experienced that at any does. Again, I would not use it every day but more like 3 - 4 days a week.

I am going to try udenafil soon and its makers claim that this drug is more selective than other PDE-5 inhibiters and does not cause back pain. BUT I haven't tried it yet, so I can't say for sure.

If you want to try udenafil, I strongly recommend you get the original brand drug from Dong-A and not some crappy generic. Send me a PM, if you want more details.

Therefore, udenafil has a relatively rapid onset of action (like sildenafil and vardenafil) and a long duration (but not as long as tadalafil). Furthermore, it does not inhibit PDE11 like tadalafil and it is not associated with visual disturbances or myalgia (like sildenafil–vardenafil and tadalafil, respectively).

I don't understand the part about pycnogenol, it's just an antioxidant meant to keep good blood circulation. I take an excellent pycnogenol complex (no L-arginine, I don't want to risk my hair) from Naturmil before going to sleep and it's been great. My erections are harder and more frequent.
