Title: Balanitis, circumcision & catheterisation
Post by: welshwales on February 02, 2014, 09:59:29 AM
Hi folks. In 2011 I developed Balanitis, my foreskin became too tight. So, not being one to leave things, I got a referral to a uro and was scheduled in to have a circumcision. I thought that would be the end of my problems, but it was just the beginning. The day following the op I developed urine retention and had to go back into hospital. First they tried to catheterise  but they were unable to do so because of swelling around the urinary tract. They tried to force it through but that just led to more swelling. So they opted to try and flush my system having me drink gallons of water, and about 30 hours after the last time I urinated it finally started to function again and I pissed for Britain!

After the swelling and stitches were gone I noticed the first little lump in my penis. I got another referral and saw the uro again. He diagnosed me with peyronies and was adamant that it could not have been caused by external factors ie. the circ or the botched catheterisation. He said there was no treatment other than surgery and we decided to leave it 12 months and see if it progresses or not. Now after major cutbacks in the NHS by government I keep getting my appointment pushed back. I haven't seen a uro now for 19 months. But trouble is that I just don't trust him. After reading all about other experiences here on this site I really think that my peyronies (which has progressed significantly) was caused by medical treatment, contrary to what the uro has told me. Perhaps it was rough handling during the op or the botched catheterisation. What do others think? Am I being paranoid? I just think that his immediate dismissal is in itself suspicious.

I will start from:
Quote....his immediate dismissal is in itself suspicious
It is my opinion also!!!
Both the botched catheterisation and your surgery may be the trigger of your Peyronies disease.
I know is difficult with the NHS, but you must see a Peyronies expert as soon as you can and start treatment.

I agree. You have a right to question this. You had better seek another doctor.

I have no doubt, something was triggered during those operations. I strongly  believe, that I got Peyronies as a result of being cathed for a kidney operation, prostatectomy and all the other pulling and stretching that went on during those procedures. Regards Inkhorn

Yeah it is. I might be able to get a private appointment through my mum's healthcare scheme, but I don't really fancy talking to her about the shape of my erect penis! ;-)

Thank you for your input folks, I really value it! I shall go and see my GP who I trust, and try to get a referral to a different uro.

Any update from the guy? I'm in a similar situation: got Peyronies a few days after circumcision (which I had had to treat chronic penile inflammation - so there must be some connection)
