Title: Urologists Prescribing VED?
Post by: Koozbob on March 02, 2017, 03:27:52 PM
Do many urologists in the US prescribe or recommend VED for peyronies patients?

I can tell you as a new diagnosee, my doc told me no, VEDs WILL NOT work.  He said other than same anecdotal success by patients who may have improved on their own, there is no evidence a VED will do ANYTHING other than risk additional damage.  This frankly shocked me, having been reading here.

The leading urologists in the US prescribing VED
The prescription usually is for ED and not for Peyronies.
On this forum, many members including me benefited from VED therapy
Modified: forget to mention, Chiefy you may want to get to an other doctor to have a second opinion.
Preferable a Peyronies specialist

My Urologist recommended a VED. I have seen some improvement through using it. SB

Hi Chiefy, if you go back to that doctor, you might want to print this one out and bring it with you - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20438558

"The role of vacuum pump therapy to mechanically straighten the penis in Peyronie's disease."

QuoteRESULTS:

there was a clinically and statistically significant improvement in penile length, angle of curvature and pain after 12 weeks of using the vacuum pump. Of the 31 patients, 21 had a reduction in the angle of curvature by 5-25 degrees, three had worsening of the curvature and there was no change in the remaining seven. The curvature was corrected surgically in 15 patients while the remaining 16 (51%) were satisfied with the outcome.

CONCLUSION: Vacuum therapy can improve or stabilize the curvature of Peyronies Disease, is safe to use in all stages of the disease, and might reduce the number of patients going on to surgery.

If you don't go back to him (that is what I would recommend), email it to him.

I was told (David Ralph, St Peter's Andrology, London) that you could get up to 20deg improvement using VED alone. I went on to Xiaplex with VED, but was measured from a photo at 70 deg first, and started VED on its own, for three months before I started  Xiaplex. On starting Xiaplex I was measured at 50 deg with an induced erection.  I can't say that difference was all VED, since a photo is not an accurate way of measuring, especially with a compound curve, but I certainly attribute some of the difference to VED alone.
