Title: Forum Down
Post by: Hawk on August 29, 2016, 12:15:38 AM
Greetings,

Sorry fo the interruption with the forum.  It seems to have been caused by growing pains.  It seems that we exceeded our disk allotment on the host server.

So everyone should read the forum rules regarding quotes and "empty your PM box" that fills the server disk allotment

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed but Spell check is not working correctly since the forum went down a few days ago. when you click the spell check button the box pops up but nothing is inside and it checks nothing I have tested it several times making sure to misspell words. Any ideas?

Guys,
I was on the phone with Hawk Sunday evening, and got the reports from the host provider. Is isn't anything that anyone is doing wrong. Our forum data and size will naturally continue to grow. But in this case it was some systems files that didn't have anything to do with the forum itself. (According to tech support).

Mary, when I get home I'll check the spell check plugin. It may need to be re-installed. And I'll get things setup so we get some early warning emails next time we come up against some limit.

Mary,
I just tried a post misspelled a word, and the spelling check underlined it. When I right clicked on the word it did give me the correct spelling.

Yes that works fine but for those who use the spell check button at the bottom of the text box, that doesn't work and did before the forum went down last week.

Somebody know how to enable spell check?
I have no problems, spell check works for me, but some members have

OK, I am suspecting that when our host provider was deleting files that maybe the dictionary files for the spell checker also got deleted. I will need to get with Hawk and probably will need to open a new help desk ticket with them.

But for what it is worth.... I also read where support for SMF "Spell Check" has been diminishing for several years now due to the fact the web browsers now have spell check built in (the red underline feature). The SMF forum is even speculating that "Spell Check" might possible be dropped in the future.

But I will get with Hawk in the meantime.

I appreciate it, I dont use the spell checker button but several members have asked me about it and I went through all of my setting to see if there was a place to turn it off and on but could not find anything.
