Title: Physician question of patients on traction who have stopped
Post by: urohawk on February 20, 2015, 11:42:37 PM
Question for traction users.  I'm a urologist that specializes in treatment of Peyronies Disease.  I frequently discuss or recommend traction to my patients but the usage rate is low due to the inconvenience and time that is required per day.  My patients just don't seem interested therefore I don't have a large experience with people using it.  I have heard some rumblings from a few people that the gains from traction start to fad once you stop applying the device.  My question:

Have you been a traction user for more than four months who has stopped traction?  When you stopped did you start to see a reversal of the improvements?

I have been regularly stretching my penis manually for sustained periods (much like traction) for well over a year, but now I have mostly stopped. My improvements have not reversed, they appear to be permanent and my flaccid size seems to be permanently longer, while hanging better, and less hinging.

That being said, I think it will take a lot of time and sustained usage to make very large changes take place.

I have been using the Andropeyronies device for some 18 months. I wouldn't recommend it as it's uncomfortable to use. I understand that there are better devices available.

It has taken time, but it has straightened ( lengthened?) my penis to a degree. I now only use it for an hour or two a day as, for me, VED therapy seems to be working better. It's a little early in my usage of it to be sure, but it's starting to look that way.

You need to slowly come off a traction device over quite a few weeks. If you instantly stop you will loose gains.
(This is what i have been told)

I gained 1" flaccid length and .5" erect over a period of 6 months. No girth gains. I went cold turkey for 4 months and lost .5" in erect length, but no change in flaccid. I'm continuing traction and no further reduction of size has occurred. Some might say it's not permanent, but I blame erection loss on Peyronies Acute Phase. Furthermore, I've lost nothing in flaccid, so I'm feeling confident in that.

Thanks to everyone who replied.  It is helpful for patient feedback.

Uro, I used a traction device diligently for 6 months 4 hours a day 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening. I saw a reduction in curvature from about 60 degrees to around 40-45 degrees. I also saw an improvement in both flaccid and erect length of about 3/4 inch and an improvement of about 1/2 inch in girth. I've managed to keep these gains, but I do use VED twice a day, daily in order to maintain these gains. Keep in mind that these gains in length are for the most part a return to previous length, as most peyronies patients suffer a significant loss of length.

Well, I've used PeniMaster Pro for about 5 months, 6 hours a day...I've stopped because of a really bad skin irritation (still trying to cure the condition, antibiotic cream and anti-fungal didn't help at all).

I would say the initial feeling was good and I've seen some results (less curve, some minor length gains and better erections), however, after I stopped using traction It all disappeared gradually and now I'm at starting point allover again.

I would like to mention, what really helped me with the dents and reduced girth associated with Peyronie's is the VED device I've used for a couple of months...it did wonders (wouldn't say I got my girth back but still a drastic improvement).

Yes, I'd agree. I tried traction for over a year and it helped only very marginally re straightening. It's early days for me with the VED, but my initial impressions are that it will help at least as much, if not much more, and take a hell of a lot less time.

This is disappointing! I was about to buy the Phalloson Forte, but if this traction does not result in permanent straightening, I'm not going to go through the effort

I agree, this is disappointing to hear. I just starting with the US Physio-med device. I was told to use it 2 hours a day for 6-9 months as a useful method to regain lost length and help with the straightening. I just finished my 4th round of Xiaflex and felt now would be a good time to crank up the stretching. If l really hope this helps, and if so, I really hope it is permanent.

I should point out that I have calcified plaque. I believe that makes it far more difficult to achieve a degree of straightening. If you have been receiving Xiaflex treatment, then I believe stretching is part of the remodeling process?

Did you see Dr. Levine? He suggested the same device to me

I was told I was not calcified yet so maybe that is the reason he suggested it. He did suggest surgery too, but I'm a little intimidated by that, and you have to use the device for six months post op anyway

Yes stretching is an integral part of the remodeling process after the 2nd shot each round, but I was instructed to stretch manually (3 times a day for only 30 seconds each time). After reading this forum, I noticed that many of the guys were using traction devices a few hours per day...a huge difference. When I asked my doctor a couple of weeks ago while receiving my final injections, he said traction would be a sound option for me...not sure why it wasn't suggested up front...but I am trying it now.

why can't we just shut down the traction section on this forum? it appears, traction is a complete waste of time and energy, nobody here, not one person was able to maintain their results. all these stupid studies "investigating traction as an alternative to surgery" dont take into account that surgery is F^@$!ng permanent. what a massive waste. genetics are so fuciing brutal, they rule your life from the start

Actually, upon reflection, I don't agree. People need to try things regardless.

Yep most people neither have the time nor the patience to use traction successfully.
Most devices are also a PITA and need some sort of adjustment especially regarding the glans attachments.
It's just simply no fun.

Then when people do it, there has to be some intensity to it or the impact on the tissue is too minimal.
That intensity will be no nice feeling though for anyone not a masochist.
You can wear an extender 6 hours a day and it does nothing if there's not enough intensity.

Also especially with bends, you need to bend/stretch against the curve. At least some % of traction time.
Restore X does that but then again their recommendations on time of use are much too low(for people who got used to 20 minutes a day).

Restorex has two recent Mayo Clinic studies showing reduction in curve wearing 20-30 minutes x 2/day.  And members here have had success as well.

where are the stories of members here? and these studies, do they have a follow up at all?

Many successes w traction but then they leave the forum, leaving those who don't have success or it worsens w time.  The worsening when stopping traction could be due to the condition and without traction it would have been worsening all along.  If one doesn't have 6-8 hrs a day for at least 6 months I'd go w the restorex or VED and add other treatment approaches such as pentox, low dose nightly cialis and/or xiaflex.

I've had success with Restorex, in fact it's on my fella as I type this message. I can't attribute my success entirely to traction since I do other things.  Here is my evening protocol:

Go for a run to get my blood flowing
Cold shower to promote vasoconstriction
Eat & take supplements (vitamin E, arginine, carnitine, low dose testosterone, C0Q10, fish oil, pentox)
Rice sock 5-10min
Restorex session 1A - 15min straight traction.
Restorex session 1B - 15min 90 degrees opposite of bend.
5 minute break to let my blood flow.
Restorex session 2A - 15min 4th setting which is greater than 90 degrees opposite of bend.
Restorex session 2B - 15min 4th setting
VED cycles for 10 min.

I should also mention I do Keto, intermittent fasting, OMAD, and have had 2 rounds of Xiaflex.  My approach to this disease is to do as much as possible to heal and live a healthy lifestyle.

I hope this helps.
