Title: New here
Post by: AverageJoeSF on May 19, 2022, 11:34:18 PM
Hi:
Glad to have found this site.  I'm 54 and this all started out with some painful erections and two fleshy nodules that felt like the size of a pea on the shaft of my penis.  I've suffered from ED for about 5 or 6 years, and Cialis and Viagra helped with that.  Anyway, at some point I began to notice that my penis would curve upwards, where it also began to feel soft even when the rest of my penis was erect. This deformity caused me to panic.  I saw my general practitioner who suspected Peyronie's, so she referred me to a urologist.  The first appointment was over Zoom (following pandemic protocols) and the purse practitioner I spoke with basically said that without being looked at by a urologist, all he could guess is that it was indeed Peyronie's.  I was given Pentoxifylline (400mg 3 times per day) while I waited to visit the clinic for a direct consultation.  A month later, and the urologist indeed diagnosed me with this disease.  I don't know what this all means, but from the scan this is what the doctor added to my chart:

Penile Ultrasound 03/18/22 :
Corpora cavernosum:  Normal
            Intracavernous: Distal fibrosis
Corpus spongiosum:  Normal
Plaque: Dorsal Distal:  0.5 x 1.59 x 1.5 cm
Ventral thickness (distally(: 0.5 cm
Calcification:  None
Recommendations: continue pentoxifylline

Because the curvature I described was less than 30 degrees (in the doctor's estimation), insurance won't cover any corrective procedure.  I am supposed to go back 4 months after this appointment for another consultation.  If I'm at 30 degrees or more, he says we can go ahead with some procedure.  He did say that the Pentoxifylline might make it all go away, or at least that's what I recall.

So far, I have to say that the pain is less than it was, so I'm hoping that the medication is working.  I think the curvature is less than it was.  However, the deformity of the shaft (where the girth seems to taper off as I get towards the tip of the penis) is still there.  And, what size I lost, hasn't come back either.

All I can do is be patient.  I have no idea what the prognosis is, and I hope to be in a better state mentally when I go back in 2 months to ask more questions and to get some idea for what comes next.

Welcome to the forum AverageJoe,

I will be brief due to my time constraints.
This statement concerns me "If I'm at 30 degrees or more, he says we can go ahead with some procedure."

You have one penis.  My advice is; do NOT allow any procedure without
1. Educating yourself thoroughly
2. Knowing that you are dealing with a high-volume practitioner in that procedure.  High volume usually means 100 of those procedures per year with hundreds already behind him and a high success rate.

The only procedures are a series of Xiafles injections and surgery.  Results of either are directly related to the volume the surgeon performs.
I had a very friendly competent urologist offer to perform implant surgery on me.  He did about 10 per year.  I found a surgeon who does 300 per year.

Thanks, Hawk.  It's been three months now since I started Pentox.  Today I reached out to the doctor to make an appointment, as instructed by him.  I am still educating myself about this, and the practitioner I'm seeing is quoted in some studies I've seen, so I think I'm in good hands but I will still proceed with caution.  Will report more as I move forward.
