Title: PDE5 Inhibitors show positive results in scar remodelling for Peyronies Disease
Post by: ohno on June 07, 2011, 11:15:55 PM
I found this on the association of peyronies advocates website:
One of the more promising oral medications for Peyronie's disease treatment are phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors, which have shown to assist with septal scar remodeling in a recent study.
Peyronie's disease research is also currently being conducted in New Zealand. If you are interested in participating in treatment discovery, please call:

A recent Canadian study conducted by the Division of Urology at St Joseph Health Care in Ontario has investigated the use of PDE5 inhibitors for use in septal scar remodeling. PDE5 inhibitors are known to be effective in regulating penile erectile response as well as possibly "decreasing oxidative stress-associated inflammatory change," which is found amongst patients with Peyronie's.
The researchers reviewed the isolated septal scars of 65 men who had received ultrasonographic treatment between 2007 and 2009. The most common complaint amongst the men was decreased penile rigidity (66%).
Of the 65 men, 35 received a low dose of tadalafil over a 6-month period, whereas the others did not. The two groups of men were then compared and the tadalafil group reported a better result on the Index of Erectile Function scale. The resolution of the septal scars was recorded in 69% of tadalafil patients, compared to an improvement amongst 10% of non-tadalafil patients.
The results of the study indicate that "low-dose daily tadalafil is a safe and effective treatment option in septal scar remodeling." More research is necessary on the oral treatment options of Peyronie's disease as well as other treatment options.   Any thoughts? ohno

The study was mentioned on here a little while back. It is certainly of interest. Hopefully there will be other such studies in future. I think for those on viagra, switiching to cialis might not be a bad choice, since it'll effectively be circulating 24/7.

Does 'resolution of scar' mean the scar is gone?

In my opinion, 'resolution of scar' mean the scar is gone or at least softened.
This is the reason many of us has changed the PAV cocktail to PAC cocktail.
I try to google in the subject but didn't find nothing new except some negative articles from sites that are promoting they products as "Peyronies Treatments" very high priced.
I find also on the google page a web site promoted by Dr. Levine and Dr. Mulhall
QuoteResearch in the animal model of Peyronie's disease has demonstrated that all three of the PDE5 inhibitors (ie, Viagra, Levitra, Cialis) can reduce the scarring ...
but don't succeed to find the continuity of the statement.

I recall talk a while ago of how they are working on a topical PDE5 inhibitor. That would perhaps hold promise in this area and additionally cut down on side effects men experience when taking the drugs orally.
