Title: An intersting article about vitamin D
Post by: bentoboy on August 21, 2022, 03:58:22 PM
Hi there,

I've just came across this article about how vitamin D defficiency might cause chronic inflammation. It's not related to Peyronies but still interesting to read, especially knowing that some people have specualted that vitamin D might be harmful in some ways and even cause Peyronies.

"According to 2021 research, vitamin D has been shown to have a powerful anti-inflammatory effect, and deficiencies in this nutrient may contribute to chronic inflammation.

Yet, the association between vitamin D and CRP is unclear. Although previous studies published in 2015Trusted Source and 2020Trusted Source investigated vitamin D's influence on CRP, no evidence was found to support a causal effect.

However, new genetic research from the University of South Australia, recently published in the International Journal of Epidemiology, found an association between low vitamin D levels and elevated CRP in the blood. This discovery has researchers suggesting that boosting vitamin D in people with a deficiency may reduce chronic inflammation."

I had a blood test a few days ago and my vitamin D was very deficient.
I'm going to say something stupid... vitamin D comes from the sun, my penis pain goes away with hot water, so vitamin D could be good (?)

If your vitamin D levels are low then yes exposing yourself to the sun can help your levels. Individuals in the north with little exposure tot he sun from winter months benefit from normal vitamin D supplementation. My levels were borderline non existent and I supplement with a low dose of 2000 IU's a day and have brought my levels back up to mid range.

I was on vacation in Jamaica, 10 days in the sun and I didn't feel any discomfort at all!  I've been taking vitamin D 1000 IU since December of 2020 since I got Covid because vitamin D was supposed to be good in fighting it.  I never stopped taking it then in January of 2022 Peyronies is here.  I don't ever remember getting one injury.  I've googled so much if Peyronies is related to Covid/Covid vaccine or the vitamin D.  A hand full of info, so much confusion.  How will we ever know?

In general I've learned more about Peyronies on this forum then the hours I spent googling.

Best to all!

I too have been on high dose Vit D since March 2020 because the studies seemed to show it could help against Covid. Continued taking it, without Vit K. Again, no injury for me, just suddenly a lump developing into a notch with pain... Excessive Vit D without Vit K can cause excess calcium deposits and studies have shown that Vit K can reduce and maybe even reverse arterial calcification.

I have since stopped taking Vit D as I am fairly active and outdoors a lot anyway, and I have started taking Vit K 100mcg twice daily, as well as the usual other supplements here. (Vit E, L Arg, Acetyl-L , Magnesium, Q10 etc).

Also recently started with heat - A microwave wheat bag for around an hour a day at the site of the lump.

In the last 7 days my nocturnal erection pain has completely gone and my erection quality is way better. Hoping to bring this up with my partner soon and see if we can have sex again (everything crossed!!)

There's vitamin K?  Since my 20s I've been taking mens one day, vitamin b and c.  I never heard of vitamin K!  I'll have to do some research on that, thanks!

I have a right side dent, you think the heat helped out?  I don't have anymore pain, discomfort once in a while.

When I started applying heat twice a day my pain level decreased a lot and my night time erections improved.

Same, although I'm still waking up when I get night-time erections due to the anxiety I've now got associated with them, although the pain appears to be largely reduced.

We definitely need a certain amount of vitamin D. I have noticed a reduction in pain and general feeling of well being after time spent in the sun. This should be balanced with a degree of caution if you are pale skinned and rarely exposed to the sun, because of the risk with skin cancer. In a nutshell, 30 minutes a day is probably more than adequate adequate in these cases. Long periods with unprotected skin is high risk for some.

I have also read that high dosage supplemental vitamin D over a prolonged period can be risky for the kidneys. I know many have been dosing up due to covid, however there are other things we need to be aware of.

You really need labwork to confirm that your vitamin D levels are low before starting a supplemental program.

My uro told me to take 2000 IU of vitamin D, I'm still taking 1000.

I've been taking vitamins for years, didn't wanna take more.

Thanks for sharing that interesting article about vitamin D and chronic inflammation. It's always fascinating to learn about potential connections between nutrients and health conditions. While it may not directly relate to Peyronies, it's still worth exploring.
I checked out the article you shared from healthline, and it seems that vitamin D deficiency could indeed contribute to chronic inflammation. It's amazing how nutrients can have such a powerful impact on our bodies. By the way, if you're interested in natural supplements, have you ever considered trying organic spirulina powder (https://www.znaturalfoods.com/products/spirulina-powder-organic)? It's a nutrient-rich algae that is often praised for its potential health benefits.
