Out of curiosity who told you this? The NHS website states that "Penile implants are not usually available on the NHS". This certainly doesn't sound like a positivre statement, but the wording "usually" implies that it isn't something that is entirely ruled out. Maybe an exception is made in extreme circumstances (say, a 20 year old needing an implant).

the uro i saw most recently told me this - it didn't occur to me at the time to ask how much it would cost - i've read on this forum of figures around the $50,000 mark in the US.

Yes, I should think that the cost is one of the decicing factors in restricting it on the NHS. It might be worth emailing around to see what kind of costs you can expect to pay if you go private. Also, to see if there are any exceptional circumstances is relation to the implants.

If you can't find a surgeon in the UK or it's too expensive there, my implant surgery in the University Clinic in Freiburg Germany cost €10,000. I understand they charge foreigners 30% more, though. Dr Leiber, who performs the surgery, speaks very good English - Christian Leiber <christian.leiber@uniklinik-freiburg.de>

The urologist at UCLH said that implants were available on the NHS and they do more operations a year than anyone else.  I was asking for a guy on here whilst I had my own appointment.

Had my semi rigid implant operation 4 weeks ago.  As I am ex forces I had my surgery fully funded at The King Edward VII hospital in London.  I am not sure of the full cost if you had to pay but the statement for my surgery which included 2 nights stay was approx £4500.  I think if you have to pay then you will probably have to add on consultants / anaesthetist's fees as well, so will probably total in the region of £5000 - £6000.  The bruising and swelling after the surgery is a bit alarming, but now after 4 weeks it has full settled.  I can't position in the down position for normal day to day activities and have to keep it pointing upwards and even then that gets a bit painful with the band on underwear pushing on it (at the moment I am just wearing tracksuit bottoms and no underwear.  In time it will get more comfortable (so the consultant has told me).  If any of you guys want some more advice or want to talk to me I am willing to help as best as I can as i know there isn't really a lot of help or advice post surgery.  I found that it was a case of "here is your new erect penis, get on with it".  Hope that has helped a bit.  Mike

Is t is like 100% erection rigidity or less?
Does It feel natural?

At the moment I'm not looking at having an implant but there was an article in the Daily Mail today that I thought may be of interest to forum members in the UK Peyronie's disease: Why are men being denied surgery to revive their love lives? | Mail Online (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2295425/Peyronies-disease-Why-men-denied-surgery-revive-love-lives.html)

Good article that shows the irrational double standard imposed by the National Health System.

To some degree I think they get away with it because they count on the fact that a lot of men are timid enough about saying my penis does not work, much less fighting a bureaucracy by having to scream "my penis does not work" to multiple layers of bureaucracy.
