Title: Dr Levine and RestoreX
Post by: Bigwasp on November 17, 2021, 10:21:15 AM
Hi guys,

I am a brand new member and posted in the introduction forum. I have an upward curve of about 30° that's so far does not interfere with intercourse. I have no problem with directions. This coming Friday I have an appointment with Dr. Levine. I do have a RESTOREX device but before I get started do you think I can bring it with the appointment and during that time will Dr. Levine be able to show me how to use it properly? I've heard people say it was a torture device because they did not know how to use it and they were frustrated. Or, does Dr. Levine sell the restore X device.  Anyway I am very concerned about this and I really hope it  gets better

Dr. Levine does not recommend Restorex. He believes the amount of time using any traction device is critical. Restorex claims to work with just 30-60 minutes a day. Dr. Levine recommends PenimasterPro and gradually work up to 6-8 hours or overnight if you can sleep with it. The restorex is less comfortable according to many and using it beyond an hour or so becomes too painful. Of course, you will find other doctors and patients who disagree with this. Given this, I don't think he will show you how to use the restorex.

Having said all that, I saw Dr, Levine in late August and I think he is among the top few doctors in the world with Peyronies Disease and I highly recommend him.
Good luck!

I second this. I don't see why it would be a problem to try it out and see what he says about it.

When I saw him last year he did recommend the Penimaster Pro but he also talked too me about the Restorex being another viable option.

Let me clarify that Dr. Levine did not recommend the restorex because the standard time is 30-60 minutes. He did not say "don't use it", he just thought it would be less effective than 6+ hours with Penimaster.

Also, he will want to take your history of how long you noticed the bend, progression, do an ultrasound on your plaque etc to try to determine if you are in active or stable phase. Also, search for Levine on this site and you will find a thread on what to expect with him on your first visit - very informative. You will see his associate first, who is also excellent, very thorough and has a great "bedside manner" - as does Dr. Levine.

Thanks, if I bring the wife, what does she do? Does she stay for everthing or some?  What do you reccommend? She doesn't have to go

I flew in from out of state, so my wife stayed home. I don't think she is needed, not like you are having surgery that day etc. But entirely up to you. I expect if she does go, she could be present for anything you wanted. Just to let you know, you will get a finger up the butt prostate and pelvic floor exam and they will also inject your penis with (I forget the name of it) to get you hard, but it takes some masturbation and sexy thoughts to get yourself hard in a sterile examination room (at least it did for me). I suppose your wife could always help you with that! :). Gotta keep a sense of humor with this, yes?

Well I'm not letting him do a prostate or pelvic floor exam. Screw that. Had that done by my regular doctor a few months ago. Everything was fine.  I don't know.

Dr. Trost just posted this answer dealing with Restorex vs other traction devices. He upfront declares his conflict as the inventor of Restorex. His answers make sense, although the Penimaster Pro is a second generation device now and perhaps alleviates some of the problems he mentions.  https://www.peyroniesforum.net/index.php/topic,16927.0/topicseen.html

I am a patient of Dr Levine and from my personal experience, I did NOT receive a DRE (digital rectal exam) at any of my office visits.  I likewise have that done each year at my annual physical with my primary doc.  At my initial consultation with Dr Levine, I DID receive the shots in the penis to generate an erection for the ultrasound and Dr Levine also uses shots after the exam to reduce your erection.  I had previously received similar or identical shots from another urologist so I guess I knew what to expect.  I'd prefer not to have them but they aren't torture by any means.  I am very happy with how my revision surgery with Dr Levine went and would recommend him to anyone suffering from Peyronies Disease.

Also, my wife went with me and if I recall, they asked her to leave the room for the ultrasound (I think this may have been due to lack of space in the room) but she was present for everything else including a detailed discussion with Dr Levine at the end of my appointment.
