Title: How to cope with the fear of what's to come?
Post by: markdubby on July 16, 2021, 03:40:45 AM
Hi all

My peyronies journey is hitting a big low. I started with 2 plaques and fast/notable improvements via traction but now have buckling  around the base and a hardening lump mid shaft that will probably bend what's left in half. i can probably forget sex for the rest of the year (i'm a single, reasonably good looking guy aged 30 with quite a lot going for me)

on the plus side, i know traction + VED work, and my first and second plaques are definitely getting remodelled. however the burden of having to fight this disease for so long (and potentially for the rest of my life as my dad also has penile fibrosis, albeit it hit him at a much later age) is starting to cripple and consume me. i'm trying to keep busy and live my life, hopeful that once all the plaques have been remodelled via traction, things will look much better and will be ok, but it's increasingly difficult to keep this mindset, especially considering i got a pretty big scar a month ago just by bumping my penis with a towel accidentally out of the shower. sometimes i think i'll just go get an implant and be done with this nightmare and get on with my life again.

any support from the veterans would be much appreciated. :-[ :-[ :-[

You are in the acute stage and yes it can consume all of your daily thoughts. Continue with your plan of action
and know that you will make it through this! Have you also tried/used Cialis or heat therapy?  Wake up each day and tell yourself on purpose that you will get through this. Do things you used to enjoy doing and do them. It was considerate for your dad to let you know about his condition - you must have an awesome father. Make a list of the things too be thankful for and I'm sure you will have a lot.  Don't ever go with the never thoughts.

yeah i do a few minutes of heat before traction every session.

i tried cialis but sadly i've been having some issues with my ears as i'm a music producer in my free time, so don't want to risk it until the situation settles down. i'm taking L-Citrulline though.

yeah i am trying to keep a positive mindset but it's impossible sometimes. the feeling of being broken with something so personal is difficult to handle but i will do my best  :'(

@markduddy

I've found that talking to a therapist does help. Sometimes we tend to work out catastrophic scenarios in our heads and on the forum, but talking to real person that listens and reflects is quite helpful.

One piece of advice on finding a therapist - be prepared to iterate through a few to find the one that works with you. It's similar to finding a good urologist who has experience with Peyronies Disease - the majority of them aren't helpful. Thankfully many therapists offer free 10-15 minute consultations so you can talk with several and make a decision.

Great question!

So I didn't go with a sex therapist but chose a regular therapist with experience in individual and couples therapy. They deal with issues of sex quite often so they tend to be comfortable around the topic of sexual dysfunction.
