Title: I finally understand what caused my Peyronie’s (accutane)
Post by: Graggaxy on February 03, 2021, 12:35:23 PM
I am 23 yrs old and took 2 rounds of accutane in the past. Accutane is known for making you scar prone. It inhibits collagenase which leads to excessive accumulation of collagen in healing wounds, which basically Peyronie's is. Accutane is known to cause keloid scars. FINALLY I understand what caused my Peyronies Disease at such a young age:

Accutane is the biggest regret of my life. It was literally life-destroying for me. I cannot understand why this drug is still legal in so many countries.

Now it's official. I will kill myself. This isn't heading nowhere good. Fck accutane and fck the doctors who prescribed me this fuckd up drug.

I just googled "accutane dupuytren" and just as I thought: people were suspecting accutane as a cause for their dupuytren in another forum

I was used in Acutane trials in 1980 and it actually cleared up all of my cystic acne. Years later in 2004 I discovered that my endocrine system was screwed up and my testosterone was less than 100. I surmise it was because of the Accutane therapy. I have been on full hormone therapy since. Fast forward to 2020 and bam - peyronies. I attribute all of it to using Accutane years earlier. Also I was given a very large dosage of 200mg per day - for 4 months!

Thats crazy. I wish I never touched that drug. I'm currently taking daily Tadalafil, ALCAR and CoQ10. Should I definitely add Pentoxifyllin and traction? Its not getting better for me I hate this F^@$!ng disease

Starting traction is not going to hurt you just start off being gentle. Pentoxi does help some guys. I was on it for 3 months and it was helping with erections and slowing down my peyronies.  Unfortunately I had to stop because of sudden hearing loss and my Dr
taking me off of all meds. :(

I had no idea accutane was even still prescribed? I thought it was pulled?  I took accutane as a kid like 35 years ago for acne...My acne was gone in 6 months and has never returned but i remember like 15 years later the drug was connected to increase in heart disease or something?

There are a lot of people who have developed joint and tendon disorders from taking Accutane years later.
My Dr is sure that Accutane completely messed up my endocrine system and basically made me like a eunuch with almost zero testosterone production. It affected my hormone pituitary axis . I've been on 100% testosterone therapy since 2004. I also wonder if Accutane is responsible for my peyronies ?

Here are two studies on Accutane relate wound healing. Very interesting.

I don't understand why accutane should have these effects on wound healing AFTER stopping treatment though. I developed Peyronie's symptoms more than one year after stopping accutane

Most recent research couldn't find a definite link between Isotretinoin and impaired wound healing. What do you think?

The title of this topic is totally misleading.  You do not now and will never establish what caused your Peyronies Disease.  Your understanding does not rival the greatest minds studying this topic for many decades.

So far, you have firmly established that it was Vitamin D, having sex with a semi-erect penis, Accutane, etc.  You base that almost exclusively on the fact that those things preceded Peyronies Disease; therefore, they caused Peyronies Disease.  It is the ancient fallacy that "A" preceded "B" therefore "A" caused "B". That is not science, and it is not fact. It is the basis of superstition. In addition, it is not the least helpful to your case.

Did you use men's cologne before you got Peyronies Disease or sleep on your stomach?  How about eating junk food or chemical additives or artificial coloring to food.  Did you put any known toxins in your body like alcohol, drugs, or tobacco with its dozens of hidden ingredients and pesticides?  Did you ever sleep deprive yourself, wear synthetic underwear, or a thousand other things?  What about all the people who did none of those things and had Peyronies Disease?  What about all the other men who did those things and did not get Peyronies Disease.

The sane, mature, approach is to say, " Here is a tiny study that could suggest a possible connection between XYZ and fibrosis."

Please stop jumping to conclusions when you have somewhere between no basis to the slightest trace of possibility.  This forum is here to support sound facts.  It does more damage to the cause when it is junked up with speculation presented as if it were fact.

I will fill in the signature line when I find the time.. im so desperate to find an answer BECAUSE I had my first Peyronie's symptoms when I was 21!! Think about it. I don't even think there is a single case of Peyronie's in a 21 year old guy reported in the literature. No one in my family has any connective tissue disorder, none has Peyronie's or dupuytrens. What I'm trying to say is that I wasn't predisposed to develop this condition, not in a thousand years.

It's not something a regular 21 year old dude develops out of blue, that's why I'm trying to find answers so desperately.

No I Never was a chain smoker, I never drank too much alcohol. I was depressed most of my life though and took accutane and once overdosed on vitamin D, these are the only outlier factors in me and that's why my focus is on these incidents

Graggaxy ,  I know it is frustrating in not knowing why something happened. Life is filled with mysteries and really if you really found out the cause of your peyronnies would it heal you?  I know for myself that there can be some connections with this causing that , but at the end of the day it won't change what has happened.  We just must make the best of it and not quit .  :)

You have NO WAY of ever finding that answer.  It is an utter waste of time and energy.  You could use 1% of that time to be considerate and fill in your signature line.

How many other priority issues in your life are left undone for a quest that can NEVER produce results?  Treat your condition both physically and emotionally.

As Hawk as asked you it would be very informative for all of us if you would fill in your signature line. It makes it easy for anyone to respond to your questions when they can refer quickly to your history. :)
