Title: Question about beginning traction therapy
Post by: HeadsUp on June 03, 2022, 11:56:55 AM
I was just diagnosed with Peyronies Disease this week, my urologist put me on Pentox and vitamin E for two months.  I've been advised by members here to begin traction as well.  I have a few questions.

- since I won't be going through my urologist, I'll have to pay for the device out of pocket.  If he prescribes it in two months, would my insurance cover part of it?
- is it easy to use (as in, I won't have to phone my urologist for instructions for something he hasn't prescribed yet)?
- I read somewhere they set a "bend" in the device approximating your bend (but in the opposite direction).  Is this how it's typically used?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide!

Traction devices are usually not reimbursable by insurance companies unless you have a HSA account in which you can pay for it through that. The two most used traction devices are the Penimaster Pro and the Restorex and they both have documented studies showing improvement.  Search the forum and you will learn more about them.  Also we are very fortunate to have the actual creator of the Restorex here who is Dr Trost.  He has his own forum which you can ask direct questions to.   :)  Mikel7

Jamesblue and Mikel7 - thanks for your replies!  It looks like I'll be choosing between PMP and Restorex.

I am considering trying Restorex traction therapy. I have a 60 degree upward curve that developed about 6 months ago. My question is: is Restorex traction effective without Xiaflex treatment? I have read terrible reviews about Xiaflex and was wondering if trying Restorex by itself is worth a shot?

Xiaflex effectiveness depends on skill and experience of the doctor. Xiaflex is still relatively new, and doctors are still perfecting the protocols. The high volume doctors are good at locating the plaque and injection Xiaflex to maximum effect. Xiaflex itself will do little to straighten the curve. The molding and stretching done while going through xiaflex treatment is what helps you get straighter. Xiaflex softens and reduces the plaque, making molding and stretching more effective.

Hi Sancho
RestoreX is most beneficial in the early stages of peyronies according to the Dr that created the device-Dr Trost.I was able to obtain and start the traction regime inside six months of developing a bend later diagnosis as Peyronies.
In my situation all I ever dreamer of was halting the bend before it became worse- or. UNABLE to have sex.
I consider myself very very fortunate to have achieved that initial goal. Further to that my Urologist assures me that my bend has lessened which is a bonus.
I might temper this with the advice that sticking rigidly to the treatment protocols as outlined in the booklet accompanying the device is essential.
I have missed less than a handful of sessions in around nine months so it's a long road but many here adhere to the practice diligently and have positive results.
Others that don't apply themselves become disappointed and fall away and criticised the device.
Good luck in your future
