Title: Nervous about injection for ultrasound
Post by: Curvekiller94 on April 06, 2021, 03:43:30 PM
Is it risky to get the erect ultrasound? I know it's suooosed to be the best way for the doc to see what's going on. I have an appointment with Dr. Levine in Chicago on Tuesday which the Doppler ultrasound will be performed. Is this something I should do?

I'm glad you are seeing Dr. Levine man! You are in good hands.

I was also super worried about the injection - turns out it feels like pinch for about 2 seconds and no pain after that. As far as risks involved, it is very very low considering its a skilled doctor performing the injection. Be prepared for 3 injections (1 to induce the erection and 2 to put it down). Dr. Levine's fellow will do the first one, and Dr. Levine himself will do the other two.

Dr. Levine's fellow told me that it is very necessary to do this test because 1. You want Dr. Levine to see your erection in person and 2. They only see plaques in the flaccid ultrasound about 30% of the time. Of course you'll get to check ED as well which is very important to know.

It's like Benray said. It doesn't hurt, but make sure you compress the injection site for 5 minutes so you don't risk that much having fibrosis there. Another thing you can do,  is to have sudafed with you in case he doesn't give you injections for the erection to go down. IF you are scared about having a priapism!

Thanks guys I will definitely bring Sudafed with, and make sure to compress after the shot. Did either of you guys have problems from the shot?

The injections don't hurt it is more like a little pinch. You should like Dr Levine he has an interesting sense of humor.  The ultrasound will also show your blood flow. He will also give you the option to have a sensitivity test of your penis. If I remember it is an extra $75.00.  After is is over he will discuss your options and give you two injections to deflate you. You will remain slightly engorged for the rest of the day.

Thanks for the info, what does the sensitivity test do? Is there anything that can be done about decreased sensitivity?

The sensitivity test just shows if there could have been some nerve damage. I am unaware of any medication to correct it.

Repeated injections into the penis with Trimix can lead to fibrosis in some patients. I do not have statistics on it , but the facts are that they do exist. I doubt if  a couple of injections are going to cause fibrosis. The needle they use is quite small - a 31 gauge insulin syringe.

Hey curve! I did not have any problems with the shot. Just needed for injections to bring the erection down and then after flaccid and two hour conversation with the doctor and the nurse, i was on my way out to the hotel. I had my ultrasound done in the US, on Dr. Goldstein's office. 2016....

Curve, I have had two ultrasounds, first one by a crap doctor, and second one by a good one. The first time, I only got a chubby, no erection. The second time, they injected and I got a raging boner, and as a result a very detailed report on the size, position of my plaque mass, and a serious VL. When the doctor was finished he had a me wait about 30 minutes, and it was still hard, so he injected the antidote and within minutes I was down to just slightly engorged. You are seeing one of the best doctors in the world. You will have no problems!

I just had mine done by Dr. Brian Christine in Birmingham, AL on Friday.  Injection was pretty much painless, just a quick pinch/pressure and slight burn.  Got a 80%-90% chub in about 5 min or so.  No real issues, but it took a while to go completely down.  It was about 40-60% for about 2 hours after.  I did take a sudafed just to be safe, which got it to go down pretty quickly afterwards.

Appointment went well, can't say it was super worth the $1,600. Pretty much gave me some uncertain advice. Which basically was like no reverse cowgirl, if sex hurts then refrain and do traction. He did say it is okay to wear penimaster through sleep and even suggested it

In fact I'll go as far too say big waste of time. Erection wasn't even hard enough the meds didn't work that well he marked me a 15° and it's more of a 30 when I'm actually erect and was harder for him to examine my hinge affect. My dick also hurts pretty bad after being injected

Really sucks that it was a waste, honestly that's why I didn't do this test with the uro I was seeing at home.  He was just a high volume, no real f's given type after seeing him a few times. Didn't even remember who I was after 3 visits, and one of them was a cystoscopy....

Yeah, mine was about 35 degrees or so from the injection, but he was able to determine that I had a 45 +- a few degree based on his examination,  I guess that is the difference between doctors.  I also showed him a picture I took of maximum curvature and it just confirmed what he thought.

@Curvekiller94:

Sorry to hear about your experience with Dr. L.

Was he able to feel any plaques? Did he see them on the ultrasound?
Did he say you have Peyronie's Disease or something else?
What was the result from the Doppler ultrasound for ED or venous leak issues?

If you are ok with it, please share his clinical summary that he wrote up for you. I posted mine in my intro post - I think its super helpful for us to read how he diagnoses patients.
