Title: should i go ahead and get a ved before i see the spec?
Post by: reynell on May 14, 2012, 03:22:26 PM
I was wondering should i try a ved before going to the specialist. (saw some inexpensive for around 35 dollars)  I have read allot of the do's and donts from old man about using one.  I wouldnt use it so much that i would do any damage.  I want to make sure that i show the Dr me at my worst (the greatest degree of pain and penile distortion) since I'm driving 600 miles.  If I'm not really aroused to the max you wont get the real full painful picture.  I worry that my worst wont show for the Dr and i will minimise my situation.

this in mainly for James and the old man.
tks

I am not really a VED specialist, just following usually Old Man advices.

Also regarding usage of VED before your appointment, I don't think is necessary. I don't think the doctor need you to feel the pain to understand that is painfull. I may be wrong, as I never had pain with my Peyronie's.

Regarding the cheap VED's, is it not adviced by any of the forum members.
Unfortunately where I am living now I can't get a medical VED and I am working with the one bought from a sex shop for $35. In the mean time, with all the problems I had I have bought two more, total $85 more to replace broken parts or not functioning parts.
Spent a lot of time with repairs using silicon and epoxy glues.
By the end I get to the price of a medical grade, but with quality of a toy VED.

Good luck with the doctor, write us the results of your meeting with him.

Reynel,

You can always use photographs of your maximum curvature to describe it to the Doctor...That's how I started out, and I don't think the doctor really expects you to get an erection on-the-spot so he can observe it.  Just my 2 cent's worth.

reynell:

If at all possible, stick with a medical grade VED. They cost more, but you get what you pay for with a VED. The sex toy shop versions are just that sex toys that really don't last. Remember what James said about his.

Has there ever been a study, published in a medical journal, of the effectiveness of VED therapy for Peyronie's disease?

Such study was made in 2012:

Newguy had also purchased the file and you can find it at:

james1947: thanks much for this reference.  It's a 2010 study and is now available free from the publisher here (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1464-410X.2010.09365.x/pdf).

The vertical axis of FIG. 3 shows the 12 week change in curvature, ranging from 10° worsening up to 25° improvement.  The average change for the 31 patients was 7.6° improvement.  This is pretty puny for this patient population.  Their average curvature decreased from 47.6° to 40°.  One wonders whether the four additional patients who failed to attend the follow-up had very poor results, so the average improvement was even less.

Measuring erection curvature is not an exact science.  FIG. 3 shows that 29 of the 31 changes were multiples of 5°, but there was one 9° change and one 16° change as well.  Let's hope that the initial and final measurements were made consistently.

The horizontal axis of FIG. 3 is not a measurement axis at all.  It shows numbers 1 to 31 assigned to the 31 patients.  Without knowing how these numbers were assigned we can't interpret FIG. 3.  Can someone explain this?  Normally, the initial curvatures (ranging from 10° up to 95°) would be measured on the horizontal axis, and that would be very informative.

It may be the case also no?

Regarding the quality of the research I am sure that Department of Urology, St Peter's Hospitals and The Institute of, Urology, London, UK and Dr. David Ralf know how to conduct a research and take measurements.

An other remark, the research was made during 12 weeks that is even not full 3 months. The advised VED protocol is for 26 weeks and one suppose to repeat it to get better results.

Just my opinion regarding the research. I may be wrong.

(james1947, I don't share your confidence in the study since FIG. 3 doesn't look right, but so what.)

A question: when VED improves straightness and restores size to the Peyronies affected penis, does it produce any other permanent changes to the penis's appearance?

Regarding the research, is my private opinion from what I read on the forum regarding the institute and doctor Ralf and some search on the Internet they are serious. Dr. Ralf is maybe no. 1 expert in Europe, even have some people not happy with him.
Tell you the truth, I read the study but didn't concentrate in the figures because the explanation was clear.

To your question, I gained back 1/2" from the 2&1/2" lost to the Peyronies in the first few weeks and this is with single cylinder VED, even not medical one because is not available where I am living now. I had also a slight straitening, maybe I just think so but I am just 5 months on the VED. The 3 cylinder VED is much more efficient to straiten, get back girth and length.

As I read on the forum, we have members that get straitened they penis and also get back a lot of lost length and girth lost to the Peyronies.
I hope someone with longer experience than me will jump in to tell his story.
I am proposing you to invest time and to read the VED board to see what other people experienced.

James
