Title: How much length did you lose from surgery and how did you cope with it?
Post by: MiddleAgedMan on April 28, 2022, 04:25:39 AM
Considering surgery and the associated risks vs benefits. Plication seems safer, but the loss of length concerns me a bit. I'm currently about 6" on the long side, 4.5" on the dorsal side with the plaque, so I expect my post-op length to be about 4.5" max, which is quite a big loss of length. Although I'm fairly certain length isn't a big deal for having good sex (and my wife definitely doesn't care about it), I still find myself hesitant to go from average to very short. Those of you who had surgery, and especially plication, how much length did you lose and what was your pre- and post-op length? Also, did you find the sutures after the plication bothersome - it's hard to imagine what it might feel like but the thought of knots inside your penis sounds uncomfortable, maybe it isn't?

Do you have hourglassing that affects stability ? If so if you ever do plication, please consider extra tunical grafting along with plication.  https://youtu.be/dmdi2s_L9Uw (https://youtu.be/dmdi2s_L9Uw). That being said, before you proceed to plication or even think about it. Make sure that you have tried RestoreX for 6 months atleast along with daily 5 mg cialis. If that doesn't improve your curve sufficiently , consider Xiaflex with traction. Please only then consider plication and that too, if you have no ED issues at all.

Hi, I'm in the UK where the RestoreX isn't sold and Xiaflex unavailable, but using the PMP and will see how far that gets me before I go down the surgery route. I have a small indentation forward of the bend but it doesn't affect stability and don't have any ED issues.

You can definitely arrange someone from the US to ship restoreX to you. RestoreX alone os the best tool in your non surgical arsenal. Even I can volunteer. Anything to help people get out of this hell.

hi i just underwent plication. although its too early to say anything. currently im not happy with my length loss. i was probably little over 15 cms on the longer side and little over 13cms on the shorter side. now it appears that im only around 10 cms post surgery.

i guess my penis is still in retraction / i measured wrong. im going to wait and see if i can do some traction afer a few months

what was your outcome ?

I do check "unread posts since last visit," so, I'll probably see your post(s) in reply or follow up, but, since I'm post-op, two weeks, now, I might have some valuable feedback as I await the eventual final form - length, etc. - of my penis, after surgery that included plication.

The doc saw me, post-op, the same day as surgery and said that he'd had to do some plication, just below the head of my penis, which he'd not expected, and said that, in my case, it meant that I'd probably have up to 10% of bend, remaining, after healing. He'd already told me that there would be loss of length with the procedure, overall, but declined - I'm sure it's the second most common question, after "Will I be able to have normal intercourse, again?" - to predict how much it would be.

I was 7 inches + 7/8th's of an inch (my wife thinks my specificity as to the exact (former) length was funny).

I have not measured, yet, 'cuz, if what I've got is all I get, then it's certainly shorter than that, but, I don't know enough about the progression of the healing and when it's definitive. For all I know - yes, I could read on this board, deeper into the subject, but I'm not I'm kind-of done doing deep research into every aspect of this disease, the options, surgery, etc., at present - as with many surgeries, the true healing is really measured in months, and, for all I know, at the moment, I could continue to see improvement in length and firmness for all of that time.

My understanding is that the length loss is worse right after surgery but can improve a bit once it's healed, so fingers crossed things will improve for you - please let us know how it goes! I've decided to go ahead with plication, after speaking to my doctors who generally don't recommend incision and grafting unless the length loss would be catastrophic. I've also changed from PMP, which didn't seem to have any effect with the amount of time I was able to dedicate to it, and am now doing VED with the SomaErect device (as recommended by my doctor). i haven't done any measurements and only been using it for a few weeks, so can't really tell but it does seem to help with girth which is positive. Given my curvature (70+) the plication won't attempt to make my penis fully straight, but to make it "functionally" straight, so 20-30 deg bend which is within the normal range (and more or less what I had before Peyronie's, which wasn't a problem for intercourse). We'll see how it pans out but i think I have come to terms mentally with losing some length, as it would still be prefereable to the curvature I have right now that makes intercourse quite difficult and restricted.

I'll let you know.

It's encouraging that additional length may come, eventually, with additional healing.

I may or may not know a whole lot more, after my follow-up appointment, on Tues., of next week.

Just got an appointment for surgery next week - last minute cancellation, as I was expecting to have to wait for another year with current NHS waiting lists! I'll share an update of my progress after the surgery.

Answering myself here - it seems as expected that the length after surgery is about the same as the length of the side with the plaque, which was about 13 cm (5.5"), so that's where I'm at currently. Weirdly, the loss of length doesn't bother me at all, finally having a straight penis again is such a relief that an inch here or there doesn't matter much.

I'm glad you're happy buddy. The truth there is no woman on the planet can tell the difference between a 6 inch penis and a 5 inch penis, an inch is so tiny in the grand scheme of things that it really doesn't matter.

Hopefully this is the end of this nightmare for you 👍
