Title: Good ways to view Peyronies to help maintain positive mental health

Hi All,

I was diagnosed with Peyronies Disease in October 2020.

I saw a specialist in April 2021.

For the last 15 months I've tried VED and PMP as much as I can (it seems not much compared with you guys; I've been trying to fit it in between a very busy life), with not much success. That's not an excuse, just reality.

The last 2+ years have been especially tough; not just due to Peyronies.

I saw my consultant last week; he's advised surgery might be my only option, or live with it.

I have a 45degree bend to the right and a downward dip.

I also have an hour glass indentation mid shaft.

My consultant advised this could get worse if I have surgery (plication?) and it may lead to erectile dysfunction (not good for the mental health if it gets worse).

He's suggested it my choice what to do; I should think about the pros, cons and risks.

My gut feeling is to avoid surgery and try some more (maybe RestoreX).

I may have to live with a 45 degree bend and downward dip.

I'd be interested to know what attitude and mindset others have adopted to make them think more positively about this (their) situation, to help improve their mental health regarding Peyronies and accept things for what they are?

Personal if I was you, I would go for the surgery at your age. I would make sure you do your research and get the best surgeon you can. Surgery done by the right surgeon, can lead to great results. I just think it gives you the best option for the most success at your current stage. That is just my opinion and make sure you choose whatever is best for you. My PM is always open.

Due to me also having scarring on the shaft (indentation either side) there is a risk that the indentation will become accentuated leading to my penis becoming less stable when erect and possible increased erectile dysfunction.

There are greater risks to consider for me.

Yes of course. You just have to figure out what is best for you mentally. Try figuring out the pros and cons of both and really just think about it. Sometimes thinking about it in a calm way can really help . We don't really have control of what happens so it's best to just stay calm and think logically about your options.

What has mentally helped me is just knowing we are not alone, that is most important. As long as you're educating yourself that is what is most important. If you're trying to go to urologists or trying to use traction and VED to help you then that is all you can do. winning the mental game is the first step in beating this. Also surrounding yourself with ppl who will support you

i've been trying to focus on my studying and on working out.
keeping myself busy.
also im on antidepressants.
unfortunately after more than two years my disease is still getting worse and i feel hopeless at the moment.

Thanks for your message; it's appreciated.

I understand how you might feel, as you're young.

I was 55 when my Peyronies Disease started.

We need to try to stay positive and focus  on the good things in life.

I know it's probably hard to see the joy in life whilst experiencing this condition, but there will be good things every day.

Keep in mind that good women fall in love with men for who they are as people, not for what their penis looks like. We're probably more concerned about this than they are.

Focus on your studies and keeping fit; that will help with a positive mindset.
Try to stay positive, and be yourself. The right lady will come along and will fall in love with you for who you are.

Exactly the same situation here. When my Peyronies was progressing the most, I was doing my second masters, and the only way to not think about the problem was just studying/working out. I should say that it really helps having good friends with whom you can experience more positive emotions – essential to stay a bit more positive and appreciate good moments. And studying really helps, especially if you try to make it your priority.

But I do understand how painful it is (I don't think our older fellows will be able to understand though) and there's often this feeling of missing something out (sometimes even social pressure in terms of participating in social events, having girlfriends, etc). But the fact is that many people including students also have chronic problems nobody knows about, and there's a bunch of people suffering immensely every single day in universities. It just happens that it is exactly us having Peyronies and other people might be having bad cases of diabetes or some other issues (especially women, as they often tend to develop really scary conditions).

What I learnt from them is that it's hard to get rid of this suffering completely but it is actually possible to alleviate it by different means, being quite a happy man (even though relatively - philosophical question). Plus there're much more people experiencing similar traumatic issues on daily basis than we think, which is useful to remember because you aren't alone in this suffering and there are actually people struggling as well. In my uni, at least two friends of mine were suffering from mental issues and then there were some ladies with fertility problems or other different "female" issues which made their sexual life quite problematic.
