Title: Recommendations for surgeon in Uk
Post by: MarkDS on June 24, 2018, 03:49:14 AM
Hi all

I've seen one specialist who is now recommending grafting surgery due to my 80 degree bend.  This is recommended after seeing some photos I have shown him.

I wondered if anyone had recommendations of surgeons in the UK, possibly in the South West, although it seems most are in London.

Also any feedback on surgeries completed by Mr Rees in Southampton?

Thanks guys

Hello MarkDs

You might try going through our list of specialist and see who might be close to your area.

Thanks.  Not many in the Uk, and the two in the south west do not appear to specialise in Peyronie's

I'm not likely to have surgery for a couple of months, so I guess I'll try some alternative treatments.  Are these available through the nhs, or is it just a case of buying things privately?

Well make sure to look for replies to your post, members that live in or close to your area may have recommendations for you, first hand knowledge of who they have seen.

Even if you go through with the surgery, traction before and after (as recommended) will help minimize any loss in length.  I've gone from 90 to approx 50 with xiaflex and traction.

I asked about xiaflex, but it's so expensive.  I could get one injection on my insurance, but I do not think you can get it on the NHS in the UK

I'm based in Halifax, West Yorkshire and was initially under the care of my local consultant urologist. He ended up referring me to a consultant surgeon who specialises in penile reconstruction, Peyronie's and implants. So now I'm in the care of Oliver Kayes at St James's University Hospital in Leeds. Currently waiting for my date to have penile implant and grafting/reconstruction surgery.

Obviously, I cannot report back on my own experience of the surgery as of yet. However, I'm a journalist by profession so cursed with a research obsession - and Mr Kayes ticks all the boxes in terms of experience etc, as well as teaching in the subject at the Leeds University Hospital group. I've spent a fair amount of time consulting with him to get to this stage, and he's been pretty frank about the options and answered every question I've asked both honestly and without glossing over the downsides. Bearing in mind that this is all on the NHS, not a private thing, I'm more than satisfied so far!
