I was previously blessed with a straight penis which I took somewhat for granted. After having surgery for a double hernia I developed severe bruising to my penis so that it was almost black. Over the next 12-15 months the head of the penis when erect has gradually changed direction until it points directly at me instead of upwards, I would estimate that the change of angle is approaching 90 degrees. It appears that scarring has taken place on the inside which means that part of the outer side of the penis swells when the inside doesn't causing the curve.
I've been in denial for a while but now feel a little angry is there a chance of medical malpractice? - I don't see why a hernia op should cause trauma to the penis! I am happily married and am not aware of any other event which could have caused the problem. Any input welcome.

I would like first to say that you need to see a Peyronies specialist to diagnose you and put you on a treatment.
I don't see how hernia surgery will cause Peyronies but we just assume (from people experience) that we know the causes.
In parallele you may read the forum to understand batter this disease and what other forum members are doing to fight it.

Thanks both, I have seen a doctor who didn't feel there was much he could do. He checked out my penis and was surprised by the angle on a photo I had taken (don't have any of it when it was straight :D) He did offer me a referral but I haven't taken him up on it yet.
There is discomfort when fully erect but not real pain. No sexual dysfunction as yet but penetration during sex needs many attempts as the penis bends away, luckily I have an understanding partner.
I presume the op could have caused scarring. I am slightly concerned that to dissolve the scar tissue which is causing the problem) if possible) may dissolve the scar tissue which is holding the hernia webbing in place.
It is a common misconception the scar tissue is "dissolved", really it just reconfigures or softens, but you would have to ask a doctor if this will effect the webbing obviously.
Although challenging, your situation could be much worse. I have had my share of bozo doctors, and I can tell you right now it would be better to focus on securing the proper treatment and medical providers.
Litigation is very stressful and will further provoke your anger which could make your symptoms worse. Focus on getting healthy, and if it is still warranted later on you can always look at your legal options.
As James alluded to, you may have already been predisposed to Peyronies Disease. The surgery may have triggered it sooner, rather than something else, later on.

My wild unprofessional guess is that the bruising you saw on your penis was not from penis trauma at all but from blood setteling to your lower body parts from the hernia area above. It is common for instance to sprain an ankle and see your toes turn completely black. Spilled (leaked) blood from internal bleeding has to flow down through the tissue if it cannot escape the body. Often the scrotom is the recipient of such blood spills that happen in the lower abdominal cavity. Often the scrotum will turn solid blue/black.
Whole blood by itself is a know cause of scar tissue and adhesions so this indeed could have caused scarring. Weather you actually have Peyronies Disease is another matter but for all practical purposes, even if you do not have progressive Peyronies Disease you are in a state similar to someone that is in chronic (stable) case of Peyronies Disease and left with lingering scar tissue.
Hawk, Thank you for your comments which strike me as very relevant. Perhaps I don't have Peyronies as such but the same effect. I think that I now need to concentrate to finding some way of flushing out\softening\dissolving the area of tissue which is not functioning as it should. I will now return to my GP and request a referral to a specialist in this area.

Weird. I was actually doing random internet searches on "Can a hernia cause Peyronies" and it brought me back to the thread on this forum. I've had a hernia on the left side for years and my Peyronies seems to have started very close, if not at that very spot. I guess I'll never know but it makes one wonder....
IMHO-Scarring and damage surely could have happened during the hernia operation. Any time a catheter is shoved up the urethra there can be a problem. Regards Inkhorn
