Title: Implant Surgeon Recs
Post by: Curvballs on July 30, 2022, 06:37:52 PM
Hi All- I'm new to this site, and very psyched I found it today. I've been "suffering in silence" with ED and Peyronie's for years now, and finally feel hopeful after spending today reading on this forum about the highly positive results from implants. I'm "all in" (that's what she said! :) for pursuing an implant. I've tried everything else (viagra, cialis, vacuum device, Edex/alprostodil injections, stretching and most recently Xiaflex, all to no avail). I'm at my dick's end with all this!

I'd like to get opinions from this group on good implant surgeons. I read the list of surgeons by state on the forum, but wanted to see if there are any updates. As much as I'd like to see Dr. Eid, he doesn't take my insurance (United Healthcare), and I don't have an extra $20K floating around. I initially thought Dr. Kramer would be a good 2nd choice, but then read some recent negative posts from this group. Any updated opinions on him?

The other recommended surgeons I've seen while surfing this forum today are Karpman in CA, Lentz at Duke and Levine in Chicago. All of these surgeons take my insurance. I would like to get opinions from this group on these 3 surgeons, and any other good implant surgeons in the US.

Appreciate your input!

If you live in Arizona, I'd recommend Dr Avila at Ironwood Urology.
He's under the radar as far as high volume, but he does plenty of them and did a perfect job on me.

Thanks tomas1!  I'm actually in FL, but willing to travel anywhere to get the implant done right.  I'll check out Dr. Avila's website.  Thanks again!

Hi Curvballs, I had my implant / graft revision with Dr Levine and highly recommend him.  My case was pretty complex as I had a failed incision / grating surgery with a Dr in Michigan.  It's been almost a year and I am doing really well.

Thanks JustAGuy 2020!  Which implant did Dr. Levine "install" for you?

I had Dr Lentz perform my implant.
He restored most of my length, but more importantly he increased my girth. I definitely would recommend him.
Surgery is different from what most people expect.
Other than an after surgery follow up appointment where his assistant will show you how to inflate and deflate and check for healing, there is not much training and expected issues.
This forum has filled in the gaps as to expectations, issues, etc.
I am surprised there is not a high volume implant surgeon in Florida.
I wonder if it's a very well kept secret?
Good luck with your search and read as many journals as you can, they are very helpful and filled with helpful hints on implants.

Thanks, StepOne! I'm surprised as well given the retiree population here in FL. I plan to continue reading up on implants over the coming days.

I checked out Dr. Lentz on the Duke website, and was very impressed. Since I'm travelling from out of town, how long after the surgery was the after surgery follow-up appointment?

I would really appreciate any additional personal experience from this group on Dr. Lentz or other surgeons you've used. As I previously mentioned, Dr. Eid was my 1st choice but not covered under my insurance. Many thanks to anyone willing to share feedback on their surgeon given the importance of this decision for me!

The surgery follow up was a week later.
I chose Dr Lentz because at the time he told me he as doing about 145 implants a year and he knew Dr Eid and had talked with him.
I would still think there has got to be a high volume implant surgeon in Georgia or Florida. It took me forever to find Dr Lentz. No one had heard of Lentz prior to me posting him on here and as I said Dr Lentz was performing 145+ a year.
Most men don't talk about their dicks, so we are at a huge disadvantage. It's only been recently that Peyronie's commercials have been on TV.
Keep searching, really do some hard work on this!
I wonder if you called colorplast if they could give you a list of surgeons?

Thanks JustAGuy 2020!  Which implant did Dr. Levine "install" for you?

I received a Titan 20 cm + 1.5 RTE.  Dr Levine ONLY uses Titan for those with Peyronies.

Thanks, Stepone!  I'll keep searching for implant surgeons down here in FL, but I'm anxious to get back in the saddle again (so to speak!).  It's been way too long (actually short and bent :)    I may also check for a surgeon at Tulane University in New Orleans.

Great, always ask, "how many implants do you do a year?"
You do not want a surgeon that does 12 in a year, which is what one surgeon told me.
Go for high volume only!
And when you find one....share!

Yes, will of course share the wealth if I find a good implant surgeon here in FL.  Otherwise, I'll need to find one out of state, which will require two trips (pre-op visit and then the surgery), which is a pain. So far Dr. Eid is the only surgeon I have found who does pre-op telemedicine visits.

I just noticed that Dr Paul Perito is in Coral Gables, FL.
He is a highly regarded surgeon.

Great information!
It's understandable that these surgeons aren't on TV yet.
But maybe sometime soon, lol

Hey Curvballs.

Please Google Dr. Perito. He has a colorful history. I wouldn't go to him, that's for sure. He does have a youtube channel that shares some good information, but his approach is focused on speed, hence the use of infrapubic technique. You really want to steer clear of that and go for the scrotal approach.

Pfract do you have a penile implant?

There is no difference in final outcome between the infrapubic, penoscrotal and subcoronal. The only difference is the scar location and visibility.

Dr Perito is one of the all-time best at doing implants. He has trained some of the current high-volume implant surgeons such as Dr Hakky & Dr Clavell.

Curvballs, if you are located in Florida I would highly recommend you visit Dr Perito or Dr Billy Cordon.

Dr Perito has an intraoperative technique for Peyronie's patients known as the scratch technique. He can fix your scar tissue and implant you at the same time.

Thanks, AverageBloke!  Has anyone in the group had implant done by Dr. Perito or Dr. Cordon?  Nothing beats personal experience when it comes to surgery, and that seems to be particularly true of implants.

Curvballs, you might check out the FT Implants forum to see personal experiences with many doctors.
Many of us are members of both forums.

So, I've tentatively decided on Dr. Cordon for my implant based on proximity to where I live (2 hrs. from Miami) and his excellent online patient reviews.   I've seen lots of positive comments regarding Dr. Cordon on this forum as well as on FT, but did not see any posts from anyone who actually had their implant surgery performed by him. If anyone had their implant surgery performed by Dr. Cordon, I would really appreciate your feedback/input on him.  Thank you!

How many implants does he do each year?
You need to ask him and if doesn't do many, RUN!
Don't be a Guinea pig for him to experiment on.
I once had a surgeon tell me he just started doing them and had done 4 in the last year. He was a nice guy, but I don't want nice, I want an expert.

I totally agree, Stepone! I have a consultation appt. with Dr. Cordon in mid-Sept and will inquire.  I believe he was trained by Dr. Eid and is a high volume implanter, but I will confirm during my visit with him.  In the meantime, if anyone has experience with him, please let me know.  Thanks!

I don't recall, but if you haven't put your age, medical issues in your signature line, please do so.
You must let us know how your visit goes.

Appreciate the warm welcome, Stepone! I will enter my stats in the sig line and report back after my visit. I set up telemed. appts. with Drs. Hakky, Levine and Covell in case I hear negative feedback from the group on Dr. Cordon before my mid-Sept. appt. with him. My preference is to get this done close to home for the post-op and in case there's any complications.

I thought about going to Baltimore for Dr Kramer back when he was in demand but decided to roll the dice and try mu local urologist. I don't know if I was just lucky or smart.

Probably a bit of both.  I still have a home in MA, and was considering Dr. Kramer who moved his practice from Baltimore to Cape Cod.  However, the recent posts on this forum are mostly negative for him, which is a shame since I have a place to stay in MA.

For this type of surgery the convenience for how close your surgeon is to where you live should be at the bottom of the list in your decision as to where you have it done. I did that when I had my first surgery and it didn't go well. I don't recall seeing anything on this forum about Dr Cordon so hopefully you'll get some feedback here before making your final decision. I visited with Dr Kramer before my revision and felt rushed through the whole appointment and made the final decision that day to have Dr Eid do my revision even though I live in Massachusetts. My first surgery was done at Mass General Hospital.

I'm not sure what United Healthcare plan you're on, but I have United Healthcare Medicare Advantage PPO. When Dr Eid did my revision it ended up costing me less than $2000 for the surgery and travel. I know $2000 is a lot of money out of pocket , but in the end it was well worth the expense for me.

Good luck going forward.

Just because a surgeon is not on this site's radar does not make them a bad surgeon. Most men are not socially talkative when it comes to penis issues...or This site would be crashing every day because of the high traffic.
As I said before, ask how many implant surgeries they have done in a year, how long have they been doing it, etc.,
I think there is a list of questions on this site someplace.
I understand your concern about being close, but I think if you ask questions, you don't need to travel to NYC.
Best wishes

Stepone, I was not suggesting that anyone needs to travel to NYC for surgery only cautioning about making sure which ever doctor does the surgery is a high volume surgeon. Every case is different as is everyone's circumstances, but with this type of surgery the distance to the surgeon in my opinion should be the last consideration.

Totally agree, and I'd travel virtually anywhere for the right surgeon.  I know that Dr. Cordon is a high volume surgeon for implants, and have seen several positive and no negative feedback on him in this forum.  However, most of the pos. feedback has been because he trained under and comes highly recommended by Dr. Eid, but I have not been able to find anyone on this forum who actually used Dr. Cordon for their implant. I'm looking for feedback regarding personal experience, and hopefully someone will come forward who has used Dr. Cordon.

Why don't you call Dr Cordons office and ask if they have a list of patients you could talk to?
And did you do a google search on him?
I saw a Dr Billy Gordon urologist with great google reviews. It's a start!

I have a prejudiced preference for Dr. Eid.  So do yourself a favor and call his office and have them assess your insurance coverage.

If he is not an option, I would recommend  Dr. Haaky in Atlanta, GA.  He will size you aggressively and would be my choice.  I am not saying you cannot find another doctor closer that could do a good job but that would be my choice.  Of all the high-volume doctors in the U.S. Paul Perito would be my very last choice.

Here is a post worth reading so you know what to look for and ask while making your decision. https://www.peyroniesforum.net/index.php/topic,10810.0.html

Hello Curvballs.

I have not been on the forum in a bit but just read your post. I am in FL also. Had my 1st implant last Oct in Tampa and they messed me up really bad!. I went to Dr. Tariq Hakky in Atlanta GA, and he fixed me! You can follow my timeline on history if you choose. My wife theboykinlady and I did a LOT of research! They are really bad ones in Florida! Just saying. Dr. Hakky and Dr. Eid were my first choices, but insurance wouldn't allow out of state. Then after needing revision, insurance covered it.

If you have ?s ask.

Waveboy, thanks for all your posts.
Congratulations on a 24cm. I think you are the first guy on here to have 24cm.
You should request the admin to add Dr Hakky to recommended surgeons. We all know how Hawk always pushes Dr Eid. I personally feel there are a lot more excellent doctors that do these surgeries, but the notoriety of Dr Eid keeps them in the shadows.
Could you update your signature to include date, type of implant, etc. for each implant?
Big thanks
Best wishes.
