Title: Ultrasound today
Post by: Ketric on June 10, 2015, 09:51:31 PM
So first off, I was diagnosed almost a year ago this month with Peyronies Disease. I'm roughly 35 degrees up with a slight bend to the right. I have used a combination of traction and pump device for almost 4 months, along with L-Agenine and vitamin E. I also had on round of PRP shots back in April
Now, I still have the curvature and slight bend but no real pain...which I assume means I'm now in the chronic phase. I went to have an ultrasound today and he could not see (nor could I) any scar tissue or calcification...thoughts?

I suppose that scarring is present, but he could not detect it. I think it's pretty standard knowledge around here that scarring isn't always palpable or easily recognizable eh? Perhaps you have what would be better described as "fibrosis" in the areas where bending is taking place, basically unhealthy penile cells due to injury.

In the end however, we basically treat Peyronie's the same as we treat fibrosis or any penile health issues. Regardless of if you have scar tissue or not, all we can do is stick with the science and treat it the ways we know how to. Keep up the treatment.

If pain is gone, perhaps now you can have some improvement since things are no longer actively changing. After the active phase begins your chance to remodel things a bit. It was that way for me! : )

thanks Neov...it was very interesting to watch while he did the ultrasound, we could both feel some spots but nothing could be seen. I'm wondering if the PRP shot I had back in April may have helped....

Has the traction device caused any changes in your penis?  Even if not straightening it, has it changed it perceptibly in the past 4 months?

Hello Ketric!
I talked with the doctor doing the ultrasound who stated that as long as there is no calcification that ultrasound is not able to demonstrate changes in the tissues.

My doctors were able to see the plaques before calcification.
In my opinion, is very much dependent on the doctors capability.

This is not true. I have seen ultrasounds and under a doctor's interpretation it is possible to detect plaque/scarring separately from calcification.

I read here that some URO told patient that it is impossible to see plague by ultrasonic device.
Maybe it depens on equipment they use and their qualifications too :-(

I will second what LWillis said. My URO did an ultrasound and showed me exactly what was going on and explained the size of the plaque and was able to determine that there wasn't calcification. I'll go out on a limb and say your doctor is not properly trained in the use of ultrasound. Look, if OBGYN's use ultrasound to monitor the progress the development of a baby, it clearly can show what is going on with Peyronies Disease.
