Title: Went to Urologist today — forum thoughts on their recommendations?
Post by: strat on December 03, 2019, 07:25:33 PM
I just started showing symptoms of Peyronie's and got an appointment with what seems like the best Urologist for Peyronie's in my city, based on Googling. He said it's good I'm getting in early and am young, but didn't have much positive news to share. He talked through all common treatment options I have seen on this board and his POV was —

1) Immediately get on anti-inflammatories (Meloxicam aka Mobic)
2) 20mg Viagara per day
3) L-Arginine and CoQ 10 optional
4) Restorex optional (cautioned that it would cost $500 out of pocket)

Check back in 1 month.

He wouldn't give me Pentox, saying that he wants to see what this mix does first. He said that anti-inflammatories are the ONLY oral med advised by the American Urological Assocation during the Acute stage, which appears to be true (https://www.auanet.org/guidelines/peyronies-disease-guideline (https://www.auanet.org/guidelines/peyronies-disease-guideline))

He said given my age and well-defined onset/progression, it's essential to limit inflammation and encourage blood flow to encourage healing during this phase. He also mentioned a recent study by Landon Trost suggesting traction shows some promise. I think this is it — https://www.smr.jsexmed.org/article/S2050-0521(18)30019-2/abstract (https://www.smr.jsexmed.org/article/S2050-0521(18)30019-2/abstract)

Seems to make sense, but I know this board is very adamant on Pentox. He said he sees 3-4x Peyronie's cases per day and is the only doctor doing all 3 types of surgery in this city of ~1M people. Worth getting a second opinion or see what this does?

If you're sure to include traction and/or VED it sounds like a great multimodal treatment approach to begin with.  Be sure to read the survival guide here: https://www.peyroniesforum.net/index.php/topic,3180.msg44057.html#msg44057

Thanks, are there any comparable traction options to Restorex that aren't $500?

Try penimaster pro or ESL 40 but must wear for 6-8 hrs a day where restorex is 30-90 minutes a day,

Also... The way it's able to bend on the curve, it's the only one. As in the way it pivots. Seems like you found a very good, doctor. Are you willing to share with us his name or practice?

Sure, Dr. Richard Natale of Carolina Urology Partners in Charlotte, NC.

Is Restorex best for during the Acute stage or chronic stage (or both)? I'm willing to do just about anything to stop/reverse this disease, so if I need to pony up the $500 I guess I'll do it.

I'm also unsure on what device to buy, it's making me go crazy...
Both VED and traction-devices.
Does anyone know a good sight that ship VED worldwide? I need one desperately
Or could a cheap penis pump do the job? Those are available on regular sex-shops but I'm not sure they do the same job as VED especially for Peyronie's

A cheap penis pump will get you started, just be sure to follow the single cylinder protocols here and never overpump—should be no discomfort and not to full erection.

Sounds good, Tony! But again, is it even theoretically possible to stretch a calcified scar to an extension that it's as elastic as the healthy tissue? If it's not there's no reason to even try, not tryna sound pessimistic, but man wow... I have erectile disfunction and I'm not even 20 years old.
If it's not theoretically possible I can just send myself up to God already

I have Restorex.  It takes getting used to, but is a far better option [from what I've read here] than anything else. I used it regularly for 5 months, and will be using it on a "maintenance" schedule going forward.  I saw my urologist today and he said I've regained an inch, according to his measurements.  The folks at Restorex are supportive and helpful, in my experience.  bottom line is you have to make the commitment to Actually Use It.  Allow 2 hrs/ day [treatment is 30 min each, but set up, recording keeping, etc all takes time] And keep a diary.  Good Luck

RestoreX looks great but the price surely is very high even if it's good quality.
In theory it's possibly to DIY the pivot or a opposite direction hinge/lever. I did that with a normal extender. I put a pencil or similar between the penis and the rods opposite the bend.

Additionally it has a higher tension which cannot be replicated in a controlled manner w the other devices,

I ended up getting Restorex and have been using it for about a month now. It definitely gets easier, but is still quite uncomfortable at times. Still too early to tell regarding results but the 2x per day 30 minutes is very manageable.

Once you got accustomed to an extender and how to use it safely you can experiment a bit with the time and tension.
There's quiet a lot of data/info on stretching and manipulating tissue out there that is similar(!) to the tunica. Low tension and long time(with breaks) per day can achieve a lot safer than short time and high intensity.
I assume that the companies selling these devices always are on the very safe side. I remember using my extender at some point for 8+ hours(1 hour at a time) for some weeks and that was were I made the biggest improvements. Of course that's only after getting used to it over months prior.

Melting I agree, but new research is showing restorex with higher tension and less time is very helpful.  Of course this not apply to the other devices as they don't have such high tension—-which requires longer times.

It really depends on the way the glans is strapped in and can take. Then you can generate a lot of force with any extender.
At some point I hadn't enough bars to screw further out so I replaced them with hardware store screws that fit and elongated the possible length to stretch. But I didn't get there by stretching hard early into a set or day where the tissue reacts by tensing up.
Heating and slowly relaxing the tissue via "creep"(https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Stress-relaxation-left-and-creep-right-testing-protocols_fig1_221920273), stretching further out whenever the tissue "gave in" to the stretch.

There are vacuum hangers like the LG hanger that are so comfortable that you can theoretically hang beyond 10lb. But of course that can be quiet risky for people who tend to react badly to penis injuries..
That's why I would rather opt for long time but less intensity at least initialy. From there it intensity can be increased and upped much easier then starting cold with high intensity which can result int failure of tunica structures..

The range of elastic and plastic deformation can be controlled much easier and safer that way. It's similar in principle to hitting the highest weight in the gym cold, high injury risk, or slowly building up to it.

There's a lot more info out there about tendons in other body parts than about the penis and in principle they react the same way.
