Title: Peyronies & heart medication
Post by: steve james on June 17, 2021, 04:19:16 PM
Aged 59. Had heart attack 14 months ago & 3 stents fitted. Good recovery but about 10 months ago started to get upward curve about 3 inches from base of penis. Reasonable curve and penis was 6.5 inches, now just under 6 inches. Still fully functional. Have read elsewhere that some heart medications can have a side effect of inducing Peyronies.
Any other members have this experience ?

Welcome to the forum, Steve.

If you read the label on some Beta Blockers, you might find Peyronies Disease as a side effect of taking the medication.  If you have another common risk factor for Peyronies, you might want to consider asking for a different Beta Blocker.

Here is an index of some articles in PubMed --> https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=peyronies+beta+blocker

I also want to direct you to our Survival Guide.  It is an essential read to bring you up to speed on Peyronies Disease and to get you started on a plan of attack. ---> https://www.peyroniesforum.net/index.php/topic,3180.0.html

Finally, it helps immensely in getting answers and preventing us from typing the same questions repeatedly if you fill in your signature line.  Here are some instructions. --->https://www.peyroniesforum.net/index.php/topic,10819.0.html

That should give a lot to get started on.  Best wishes

Somehow the link I originally meant to post was the wrong link.  I corrected it in my post but here it is again. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=peyronies+beta+blocker

I just came back from my second round , first shot of injections and I asked my urologist this question if I should come off beta blockers. He said, to his knowledge no direct link has been found to peyronies. A subset of people taking these medicines are usually older and the occurrence of peyronies just coincides with it, not necessarily a causation. He said one way to look at it is, Blood pressure medications usually induce some form of ED, which is a pre disposing factor to Peyronies.

Yeh, I remember a well-known urologist telling me Bimix does not cause Peyronies Disease even though it is a listed side-effect.  Dr, Eid told me it was well known to cause Scaring and fibrosis.  Unless you talked to a Peyronies Disease specialist with Peyronies Disease as half of his practice, I would NOT put much stock in that statement.
