Title: Peyronie's Disease Treated with Oral Weekly Dexamethasone and Cyclophosphamide
Post by: skunkworks on August 11, 2014, 09:59:01 PM
Peyronie's Disease Treated with Oral Weekly Dexamethasone and Continuous Low-dose Cyclophosphamide (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4037975/)

QuoteDexamethasone (5 mg) for two consecutive days weekly orally was started. The condition improved in the first 6 months with reduction in basal bending to 10% and coronal bending to 15%, but the condition became static thereafter during the next 2 months. At this juncture, cyclophosphamide (50 mg) daily was added, which lead to complete clearance of the angulations back to normal in 8 months along with complete resolution of the plaque. Radiograph of the penis showed no calcification. During the next 4 years of follow-up, there was no recurrence of any plaque or angulations of the penis.

The obvious issue of course is the timeframe, short enough that it could have been spontaneous resolution.

However, a potent anti-inflammatory in the early stage could be beneficial. cyclophosphamide is used to treat some auto-immune disorders.

There was a thread on this, or at least someone brought it up before. Looking into those drugs most of us got scared away by cyclo's side effects. The study was on one man unfortunately. Dexa on the other hand looks pretty viable, and deserves more research perhaps. It would be amazing if it worked!

An interesting thing about that link is that they describe Peyronie's as resulting from vascular trauma, not trauma to the penis itself. I've heard this elsewhere and it falls in line with what I believe the disease often times actually is, but that's a separate topic.

Anyone else know about these drugs?

I guess I might be able to get Dexamethasone here in Japan since a doctor thinks I have an immune disorder giving me arthritis. If they have it that is.. And do I really want to take that?
