Title: Urologist refuses to prescribe medication to boost testosterone
Post by: SDP on June 29, 2013, 08:17:09 AM
My libido is very low and I had my testosterone checked and total was 400 and free 14. My urologist said the level is low but it is on the low end of normal (upper end of normal is 750 for total and 30 for free). I requested that the urologist prescribe a medication to boost my testosterone to increase it to the upper end of normal, but he refused saying that since it's in the normal range it doesn't need to be increased. Seems to me that there would be no harm in increasing to boost to upper end of normal - is my thinking wrong?

What are you guys taking (prescription or herbal) for helping libido?

Thanks.

I've been taking both.

My urologists are of the opinion that when it comes to Peyronie's, being in the low-normal range is too low. I've talked about these issues here:

It seems pretty clear that your doctor is not going to prescribe any medication. So, you're going to have to do this yourself. Get yourself into a gym, if you can. Weights, especially, will naturally boost testosterone.

Apart from the obvious, eating the right stuff etc, try taking DAA - and an estrogen inhibitor may also help.

Your doctor is right. Try the other ways first. Lower your body fat, increase your lean muscle, life some weights. Change your lifestyle.

If none of that brings a change, then think medication. Not before.

Hormone modulation is not a simple thing, and can often be a Pandora's box.

The natural route is the best way to go to start. Use some of the supplements I listed in the other thread, change your diet, go to the gym. Try that for 6 months and then test again. If your score is still low, then consider talking to another urologist who is more open to replacement therapy.

Take a look at PHGH herbal supplements.  3 months + 1 bottle cost me $179.00 Dr. leivine has commented on this suppliement.  I have a very serious condition even after the graft surgery.  Noticed a good difference in labido and amount of ejaculation.

As far as getting T level checked, are you guys who have done so getting the check through urologist/p-specialist, or going to your primary care physician?

Seems it would work better and be more tidy through urologist/specialist, but would be a wasted appointment if urologist advises going to pcp. It would be especially advantageous in my case, as apparently given that I have been relatively healthy and have not had need to see my pcp, they have taken me off the list of patients. To re-establish myself the next available appointment is NEXT NOVEMBER.

That's not exactly relevant to my questions, necessarily, but just an added sense of frustration and personal sense that things have been turned on it's head lately and nothing in the world seems to make sense, especially now that i have this bizarre condition and need medical care. Now, if I want to continue seeing the only doctor I have had for the last 20years I have to wait almost a year for an appointment. It's utter madness.

I digress, Urologist or Primary Care Physician to get testosterone levels checked?

At 36 years of age with a whopping 234 Total Testosterone, I had a Urologist tell me that was "fine."

So I would say be it urologist or primary care doc, it's the DOCTOR who counts, not his area of specialty.  Hell, look at how ill-informed most urologists are about Peyronie's ... we certainly can't expect them to be up to speed on something as complex as endocrinology.

Gentlemen- I have found that Uro's typically are the least likely to script for T. Go to an anti-aging MD. When I was 60 a year and a half after prostatectomy my T was in the high 5 hundreds, not bad you say. I've been doing bio-identical T for 3 years and my levels stay around a thousand.BTW for those given to "old school thinking" my PSA remains <.001. Regards Inkhorn

I am 64 yrs old. My T was at 281. My primary doc prescribed monthly injections for me. Getting him to prescribe was easy. Getting him to even test in the first place was the difficult part. I had to insist that I be tested for my T level. He just blew it off until I told him I would find another doctor if he did not test me. The rest was easy. From the first shot, I felt better. Within three days I felt better, had more energy and sex drive, and have even lost weight. It is important enough to find another doctor who will oblige you.

Guys, these are wonderful TRT stories.

Anyone who hasn't had their testosterone checked is making a strategic mistake. I haven't felt this good since I was in my '20's. I'm now 50 and my libido is super-high and I look great.

Please do yourself a favor and get your T-Level checked.

your urologist probably worried you might develop prostate cancer dont know how rare this is, but it can happen, this is why mine didn't prescribe it
